I am borderline obsessive using Purell hand sanitizer and I suspect that I have been getting the Purell on the radio buttons (mainly the far right On/Off button). Normally I put the sanitizer on my hands after I sit in the car and then reach to turn the radio on/off. I remember in the past the only way to clean the buttons was to remove the entire radio console. Has that changed?

Any solutions to replace the on/off radio button?

I can post photos if necessary.

Other than the 2 rubber buttons (one for on/off and the other for manually choosing the station), the rest is just fine...
Folks have had that problem for years.

Suncoast will sell you new knobs...I think they're about $16ea for the 986's, not sure if it is the same part for the 987's.

I bought a spray can of plastic coat and sprayed mine. They came out ok... not as good as new but certainly acceptable.

I think Pedro has some instructions in his DYI section.

... try the quick, easy and permanent DIY fix?
Otherwise you'll end up purchasing expensive radio buttons every couple of years.

Although the 987 knobs are different with a white circular line around the edges. So, your DIY won't match but it is a serious contender to $70.

What a rip off....

... very little to lose.
Dunk the sticky knobs in Plasti Dip and see if you like them.
If you do, problem solved, and it only cost you 5 bucks.
If not you have the option of getting new ones.
