My plastic window broke when I was opening the top on a 60-ish degree F day. A local top install shop told me most manufacturers do not recommend opening the top when the temps are below 68 degrees.
The glass top didn't cost much more. Since I like driving with the top down, even when it's 50 degrees out, I figure I'd just get the glass top so I won't have to worry about breaking another plastic window.
The glass is definitely smaller than the plastic window. However, I haven't noticed any decrease in rearward vision through the rearview mirror. At least, not left and right. In fact, you can't even see the side edges of the glass window when looking into the rearview mirror. The vertical visibility is reduced, but it does not hinder seeing a car that's behind you. The field of view up and down in the plastic window is much more than I needed anyways, so having the smaller view out the glass window isn't a problem at all.
If I remember, I'll snap some pics of the view from my rearview mirror.
I actually did the install myself. The local, and only that I could find, shop was two weeks backlogged and not taking any additional appointments for those two weeks. So I was probably looking at over a month wait to get my top installed. Not wanting to wait, I used the 101projects book, read up on some other's experiences online, and did the install in about 6.5 hours.
