Winter Tires - no longer exist in 16" - advice s 'il vous plait
grant - Saturday, 31 December, 2011, at 10:02:56 am
Hello all,

I was about to replace my 11-year-old Dunlop Wintersport M2s on OEM 16" wheels (which are great by the way, as are the M3s on my Audi). Trouble is, this size - specifically 225/50-16 is extinct in the snow tire business. There may be some NOS around, but i don't want that (probably).

So, since this is not truly a bad-weather vehicle (the German Jeep, aka S6 Avant, does that job) i'm considering all-seasons that tend toward being very good in snow. One that my local tire shop (which i want to stick with if at all possible) suggests is the new Continental Extreme Contact DWS.

This will be a 4-month per year tire in the Northeast.

Any advice on that tire?

Any alternative suggestions?

Oddly, they told Euro-tire no go on either. Same at TR.com.

I'll double check.

Thanks for the info,

A bit more digging reveals that...

.. they make the rear in M3

.. and the front in 3D

I wonder if they are sufficiently similar to purchase a mixed set. I may call Dunlop.

Or i may just go with the Conti all-seasons, despite my general feeling about all-seasons ("no seasons")
