Seatbelt clasp anti-bump pad
Laz - Wednesday, 14 August, 2013, at 3:42:08 pm
It's self-stick felt acquired at AC Moore. The color choices were fairly limited, and the available blue's hue was way off, so black was the better choice. The overall dimensions, especially length take into account the clasp not necessarily being at the belt's "stop-grommet" position, and some lateral movement. There's about 2" of felt below the clasp. The edge curvature is semi-arbitrary, and can be shaped to taste.

That looks like it should stop the banging sound of the buckle against the hard plastic. How permanent does the sticky backing seem? Hard/impossible to get off if you want to remove the felt?

Yesterday, I tried placing the buckle up by the slot where the seatbelt comes out, with the slide right below it. So far it has held. See how long it stays there as the car is being driven. Only drove about 20 miles around town today.
No knock so far.

The product label is "Quick Stick" by the way. When and if the time comes to remove it, Goo Gone will be the first choice as an aid to peeling it off. As far as the piece's aesthetic quality, it's pretty much unnoticeable, especially with the seat in its normal position. Keeping the buckle up top is a good idea, too. Might've done that with the 986, although the knocking wasn't as much an issue.
