They refer to it as an American tire, and going by brand it is, but Tire Rack's code shows it to be made in "DE"utschland. Further reference to the Tire Rack information shows the wear rating for the N spec to be much different from the others. There've been many discussions as to what constitutes an N spec, one contention being it's the same as others, but meets Porsche's approval. The wear rating indicates otherwise, at least with this tire.
About this tire size..

The OD on Boxster tires keeps increasing--from roughly 25" on the 986 17" rims to 25.4/26.3" on 987 rims and now 26.4/27.4" on the 981 19" rims.
From a technical standpoint, what's the merit in going with a tire with a larger diameter?

Glad to see they kept the tire sidewall as a 40 series rather than 35, from a ride quality consideration.
The increased diameter, along with Porsche's lengthening the wheelbases of its sports cars could increase directional stability. The greater front track helps handling balance: less steady-state understeer-- and probably has to do with the balance/compromise issues.
into less wear, all other things being equal.

"their crossed plies carcass improves steering precision, handling and stopping power" Hu??? Leaving radials for bias ply? Mixing the two?
Softer breakaway characteristic for bias ply?

And maybe a stiffer sidewall for a given amount of material.
