Mnnn, swapping IMS at every clutch service
ouroboros - Wednesday, 4 April, 2012, at 11:10:43 am
Seems to be the new accepted unofficial service update from reading around!

Good job I like maintaining this car and I'm actually looking forward to doing this(the first time anyway). Not sure all owners will find this a fun or cheap thing to do at every clutch change though !
Considering that ...

... I replaced my first clutch at 203,000 miles, together with the IMS bearing, that's about right.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Maybe I should have waited
Boxsterra - Thursday, 5 April, 2012, at 3:05:37 am
I did mine (clutch + IMS) at 150k. Neither really needed it but I was already in there.
I could have waited too ...
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Thursday, 5 April, 2012, at 10:45:28 am
... because my clutch wasn't totally worn at 203,000, but I had just blown the engine at Sebring, so more than a clutch and IMS bearing replacement I did an engine replacement and installed a new clutch and IMS bearing while I was at it.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

I did that at the recommendation of my dealer, and got the ceramic bearings from LN Engineering. The dealer stocks this aftermarket part which I thought was interesting.

My indie quoted me close to $2,200 for the LN fix, an oil change and tax.
Absent a clutch job, that' probably fair.

Maybe a little high.
The part is $700 (or more depending on model)
The tool is $200, but that's once.
The tranny comes in and out, along with the flywheel.

So figure 6 hours + $700 + oil change. I'd figure $1500 is closer. Someone correct me if i'm forgetting something.

Now, once the clutch is out its a 2 hour job + part (plus tool, once).

Do the RMS at the same time. Its another $20
