Running car with battery maintainer connected ?

I always have unplugged the battery maintainer before starting the car. Well I started it yesterday and it ran for about 30 seconds before I realized that it was plugged into the lighter socket and the wall outlet. I turned the car off and unplugged it and everything appears to be normal but I was wondering if some damage may have been done to the car or the maintainer.
