NBC - Mystery taillight 'surveillance' device?

Just bought a 'new to me' 2007 BMW 328iX coupe to handle Boston winters while the Boxster slumbers. Awesome car... really liking the BMW 'DNA'. In any case, I was washing the car recently and noticed a small sticker affixed to the rear taillight. It looks electronic in nature, and appears to contain and antenna and microchip (see picture). Anybody have any idea what this is before I remove it?? Transponder? Garage door identifier? Alien communications device?

it looks like an RFID tag. likely used for parking or access to somewhere.
