NCR-PCA Make-A-wish DE
Ed B - Tuesday, 12 June, 2012, at 9:02:26 am
A perfect weekend at NCR-PCA's Make-A-Wish DE. Temps in the high 70's and no rain. (And no incidents) Charity laps and rides for 60 MAW and Dreamcatcher kids. And a silent art auction benefiting MAW.
$6000 raised for MAW and a lot of happy kids.

Drove home with the top down on the Boxster. On Monday, Changed back to street trim, (Removed race seat, 5 point belts, swapped track wheels for street ones) and put up the top. Latched the top and the entire latch receiver in the windshield frame fell out, screws, lenses etc. under the seat. No warning. The two screws that hold the latch receiver to the windshield frame screw into plastic captive nuts. Plastic under stress cracks, and the screws fall out. No easy way to replace the nuts. Dumb ! Porsche should know better. Did they save $.02 per car?

Quick fix ...

... for the latch screws falling out is to press in some plastic screw studs.
Make sure they're the right size for the screws.
Happy Boxstering

They're not plastic...

but they might as well be.

Had same issue in my Boxster at one point which I R&R'd w/ nutserts.

Mike Focke's site still hosts the DIY I wrote up:

Boxsterra may still have the tool I gave him to repair his so you may ask if he can loan it to you.

Good luck smiling smiley

Right. They are brass. Not a good application for brass. It stress cracks, too. I did a temporary fix with well-nuts and will replace them with nutserts as soon as I get the kit from a local PCAer.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and help.
