Three Years of Blackstone Labs oil analysis
jlegelis - Friday, 16 November, 2012, at 6:05:42 pm
Just received back my third year of Blackstone oil analysis back for my '01S... thought you data junkies might find it interesting, see attached. Sure, I don't drive the car enough (3rd car/off the road in winters/kids), but it's nice to see that things are stable from a metallurgical aspect. Here's hoping that any pending interrnal / IM* issues might reveal themselves in the oil first, but after 10 years it's just nice to see that things are in great shape. FWIW, I change the oil every fall before storage, despite the report's recommendation to the contrary. Blackstone seem like good people too (no affiliation other than a happy customer).

By the looks of the calcium reading, your Boxster's been drinking a LOT of milk when no one's looking. smiling smiley

I use Blackstone also and the report looks very good from a wear standpoint.
If there is anything that looks less than stellar, it's the 100deg C viscosity--11.6; that seems low to the point where it's just about a 30W oil.
IIRC,brand new M1 0W-40 i has a 100deg C viscosity rating at about 14; that a pretty sizable drop in 1600 miles.
So, i agree that its low, but i also think its typical. This illustrates one reason to change oil earlier if you plan to use it where a hgih viscosity is required - say on the track.

For most street use, under most weather, it likely doesn't matter anyway.

It's not unheard of to see a fair bit of shear-down in fast European cars.

For example:

Minus 40 degrees... Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius?

Good numbers. Mine are reading right about where yours are with M1 at around 3k OCIs and 131k miles on the clock.
