Nifty cutaway of Cayman spoiler mechanism

Just found the site while looking to see what BMW's "TwinPower Turbo" meant, and it looks worthy of further exploration.

One can see how much more severe the raised spoiler's angle of attack is versus the Boxster's.

The Cayman needs...

... a more severe angle of attack because it generates a lot more lift than the Boxster due to it's shape.
If you look closely, it's not a spoiler, it's actually a wing that creates downforce.
Hapy Boxstering,
Pedro

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna
Right.

My take: The Cayman hatchback creates something of a lift airfoil, whereas the Boxster approaches a double Kamm: rear of the top (up) and the tail/apron. Top down profile is obviously very different from the Cayman's. An interesting thing about either "wing" is they are somewhat effective in the down position, and the profile of the exposed surface of the body panel (wing up) is also that of an airfoil/spoiler.
