A five minute or so walk from that spot brings you to a jaw-dropping vista with Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut in the distance past the Hudson River.

Route 23A from Haines Falls down to Palenville

This is the highway that leads up to the road to the North Lake park entrance. Been going up there for decades in all kinds of weather and twice in two different cars that had a frozen caliper. Near the bottom you can almost always smell burning brakes. The camera turns away from the windshield right at the most hairpinny turn (at Kaaterskill Falls,) unfortunately. I recommend muting the sound. (Just a video I found on YouTube.)
