After using our own hacked-together camera system for the Boxster, we have finally decided to take a look at some of the commercial ones.
We will be reviewing a series of dash cams...first up is the BlackVue HD unit with WiFi:

A few BlackVue Dash cam FirstVideos

BlackVue recording of driving through a few rotary in Boston.

Having a dash cam recording is a good idea in a lot of situations. One of them is if something should happen in a rotary. Rotaries are always a challenge, especially for out-of-towners who may not be as familiar with them.

Here is one we pulled from the camera of driving through a rotary:

Here is one of when a ball pops into the street...where there is a ball, there is always a kid soon after:

Here is a night clip...around 8:30PM:

BTW...the clock is messed up for some reason.
Will have to figure out we thought it would be set by the GPS.

Thanks for posting. It seems to me that the BlackVue would nicely serve for incident/accident documentation purposes but the quality, when viewing yours on YouTube in HD setting, appears to be a lot poorer than I have seen from units such as GoPro. cool smiley

Yeah...the quality of the video is actually quite a bit better. They get sub-sampled when posted to YouTube.
When we write it up for the FirstUse article, we'll link to a few full-rez versions.

Here is the "rotary" video on our server at the full 38MB for the 1-minute clip:

FYI...the clip has to completely download before it will play. It can be SLOW!!!!

Thanks, the download actually was pretty quick on our system. The quality is better than on YouTube. It still seems to have some issues such as extreme sensitivity to changing lighting.

Or, it may bit you in the butt for an incident/accident documntation. Police can take it whether it helps your case or hurts it.

Absolutely true that the videos can go both ways! But it is often better than "he said, she said."
