Panama Canal

Just checked, the reading from 7 min ago shows that my car is lining up just outside Limon Bay getting reading to go through Panama Canal smiling bouncing smiley ..... It's getting closer

It looks like there are alot of ships waiting. I wonder how long it'll take until it reaches the Pacific confused smiley .... I was hoping the other boats would be polite and just let this one go through so I can get my car quicker. Oh well, I can try to be self centered now and then grinning smiley

I cant' wait to be like Guenther smiling smiley

Actually, it's now anchored in the Bay sad smiley and not moving. I'll keep checking and when it actually arrives close to the locks, I'll be looking at the webcam quite frequently smiling smiley

Thanks smiling smiley

Just remember that when you're watching that webcam that you need to blink from time to time. grinning smiley

That webcam could get pretty crowded. There could be up to 6,499 other people waiting for there cars on that ship.

With all those cars on there, maybe your car is on a holiday cruise just enjoying a nice Mobileritta. smiling smiley
Wouldn't recommend drinking and driving though.

I think I need to find someone in San Diego who has a boat. Then we can go and escort the Grand Vega into the harbor and celebrate the safe long journey grinning smiley ..... And if I keep dreaming, the vessel captain will let me visit my car.

Why not dream big! Maybe you could take your car for a spin around the deck. grinning smiley

As I was watching the webcam, I took lots of screen shots. Just now figured out how to upload them to Photobucket to post here.

Here's the vessel, Grand Vega, entering the first Lock at Miraflores:

It's in the lock and ready

It's lowered and just starting to leave

Here's the tail end of the vessel as it leaves the lock. Just had to make sure I watched all of it. The next update on the webcam, it was gone

OMG..... I feel like such a nerd eye rolling smiley

Yes, maybe, just a little (not really)
Joanne in OC - Sunday, 4 August, 2013, at 12:02:15 am
This is harder waiting than the last time. I didn't realize last time how much fun I'd have, now I know and I'm not being very patient. AND realizing the ETA is now 5 days early, that means I could have my car in 2 weeks. That's made me even more excited.

On facebook, a friend just told me I was "obsessed". You guys, all understand ...... Thanks

Don't worry about it, Joanne. My wife tells me the same thing and says that since joining the Porsche club, she's found out that at least I'm not the only one. It's just a Porsche thing. grinning smiley

We stayed in Panama City on the Pacific side but were able to drive to Colon on the Atlantic side, coast to coast. in less than an hour (Colon is kind of a rough place). Enjoyed visiting the Canal museum and driving a simulated cargo ship through the locks. The two videos are ten minutes each. I built a model of the canal in 6th grade. I always wanted to visit and I made it there in 2009. Driving in Panama city is a bitch, lots of one way streets. Get a GPS if you are renting a car. The canal was opened in 1914 and they are now building wider and deeper locks for wider and deeper ships that can hold more cars and other stuff.

Video of the canal, the canal simulator, presentation of canal operation, etc.

General video of Panama. You can see the ships lined up in the Atlantic waiting to get into the canal.

Jeff, the vidoeos are great and very informational

When I checked the location of my car, it was incredible to see how many ships are in the area. And since I'm stalking, I could see my car's ship lining up for the canal when it was in the bay. Looking at your video, I didn't realize how close the really are.

My car just finished going through the Pedro Miguel locks, and "underway" to the Miraflores locks. Now I'll have to keep a check on the webcam to see when it goes through. I have watched a couple of ships go through while doing other stuff at the same time. ..... Just got an idea, I'll hook up my laptop to the TV and watch it on a bigger screen. Maybe I can get it on HDTV grinning smiley

Can't wait 'til it gets here, then I won't be sitting home watching the internet on a Saturday afternoon!!!!

Joanne
For sure....
