981 exhaust
Roger987 - Sunday, 8 September, 2013, at 1:40:16 pm
I'm curious about the 981's exhaust - in particular the tailpipes. In relation to the 981S and 981S PSE - do the pipes leading aft from the mufflers join into one pipe which leads into the tailpipe, then split again into two tailpipes, or is there a version in which the pipes leading from the mufflers remain separate throughout?

Are the tailpipes chrome or polished stainless?

Guenter, Laz, Mike?

(Feel free to post photos from under and behind the car. You too, Guenter, try to coax your 981 out of it's camera-shyness. winking smiley )

Here is a picture of the PSE from the Suncoast site. [www.suncoastparts.com]

It appears that they remain separate.

As for the standard S exhaust:

At first it looked like the tailpipes were separate tracts; and merely held together by a joining bracket, but looking farther revealed a joining pipe between the two. The standard exhaust tips aren't polished, but a brushed, "satin" texture.

The standard S tips look a bit low budget; anything special needed to clean up the stainless? did earlier S models get chrome tips?

The Porsche Sport tail pipes look better but IIRC are $579 if you get them from suncoast; Fab Speed's rear tips have separate paths and run $495.

I'm sure the only way you could ever get chrome tips on base or S has been to buy the Sport Tips. I really like the chrome tips because they're easy to clean - just sponge and water.

When you order the PSE, it includes the Sports Tail Pipes, which is the two pipes finished in chrome rather than the standard brushed stainless steel pipes. The Sports Tail Pipes can be ordered without the PSE for about $750 CDN.

Here's how the PSE looks on CURVEN8R 2. Took this while they were doing the PDI. You can see the joining pipe that Laz mentioned.

Thanks guys. Thinking of getting a new tip for my 987

Fabspeed offers a coupe choices, one of which keeps the pipes separate. Although the URL's appear to be the same, they each link to different pages/photos.
