This is on a MY2000 base boxster with 103k miles.
So put the top down the other day with no issue or drama, everything appeared normal, but at the end of the procedure noticed that the top idiot light in the front dash is still lit, and stays lit as I am driving the car. That's not normal, I thought to myself, and sure enough when I get back home and go to raise the top nothing happens when I push the button, just silence.
Any ideas on what the problem is? I searched the archives and came up empty. Thank you.

If the top light did not go out, it would indicate the opening cycle was not completed. Maybe the fuse went, or the motor went since it quit mid cycle.

... make sure that the handbrake light is on.
It this light doesn't light when you set the handbrake the top will not move.
The fact that you have the top's light on, just means that you did not finish the opening cycle, as Guenter explained.
