as today is Remembrance Day, as it is called in Canada, I'd like to echo Pedro's thoughts for Canada's Veterans.

For starters:

Passchendaele,
Dieppe,
Monte Cassino,
Juno.

This location was the site of heavy fighting between the Canadians and the Germans after the D-Day landings. 18 Canadians were taken prisoner, held and individually executed in the gardens of the Abbaye d'Ardenne. Reportedly the prisoners were each interrogated and could hear the nearby executions. The memorial garden gets fresh flowers regularly. I discovered this abbey by accident during my drives to the D- Day beaches. Thank you Canadians, for your service.
