Hi All,

My Boxster has Michelin Pilot Sport tires. They have only 12,000 miles on them and plenty of tread. However they are six years old. The sidewalls show no cracks or sun oxidation. Frankly they still look almost new.

Is the age a safety concern?
not only will you get wildly varying opinions from the members here, but even articles from tire manufacturers vary. it’s up to you to figure out your risk tolerance for the types of driving you do.

i’m a casual, fair weather driver in a moderate climate, and i would be willing to drive garage-kept, 12k mile tires beyond 7 years. i would keep a closer eye on them the older they get, and would look for a convenient time to replace them. my tires have never lasted that long though smiling smiley

Your tire manufacturer Michelin says to inspect annually starting at five years and replace no later than ten years after date of manufacture:
