13 Year tune up
sdm100 - Thursday, 7 April, 2011, at 10:48:43 am
This weekend and the spark plug replacement, an oil filter change and flushed the radiators (has been 5 years) For those doing the flush have to recommend the air tool along with Pedro's web site. Even my helper, a master mechanic loved the idea of how easy it was to accomplished. Last time did the flush and attempted to get the air out with revving the engine but periodically has to open up the new radiator cap to get the coolant light to go out. with this new tool it was a piece of cake. Replaced the tires with Sumtiomos and the car drives like I just purchased it 13 years ago. Thanks Pedro for all of your instructions makes us amateur mechanics look like pros.
Father or Grandfather to family member passdown acceptable but no real "sale"

As Chuck's forum began with early "waiters" exchanging info, I just got to wondering who is still around and driving that same car from the early days of Chuck's original forum.
Going to go change 3 more plugs right now...started on Saturday afternoon and tore one of the spark plug connector tubes. I discovered that Saturday afternoon is a terrible time to need a Porsche part!

Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Thursday, 7 April, 2011, at 9:09:21 pm
... delivered in February of 1998.
It's still my daily driver and in another 13 more years it's going to be my granddaughter's.
My build number is 21817.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

I took delivery of my 97 in August of 97. The sticker on the door jamb says built in 7/97. I reserved a slot on 10/9/96. Placed $1000 deposit on 4/1/97. Locked in Arena Red/black at that time. Dealer told me on 6/26 that they had started to build my car. Delivered 8/18/97.
Still have it. Still love it.

Old but hardly close to the '97s

Built in early 1998, I guess from the VIN it's #24293 for the model year, delivered in May. I think MY1999 production started very soon after, months earlier than usual.

Arena Red / Black, is still looking good at 137K miles, and will get the Spec Boxster treatment during its 14th year. Currently it is still a daily driver and frequent track car.
Of the 205,000 miles ...
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Monday, 11 April, 2011, at 6:03:03 pm
... on the odometer, 39,500 are on the track.
Woohoo!
Happy Boxstering,

Pedro wins by a mile! I mean, many thousands of miles. smiling smiley

I have 137,000 total miles, and about 146 track days. If I estimate 125-150 miles per track day on average, it's "only" around 20,000 track miles.
Typo ...
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Tuesday, 12 April, 2011, at 8:24:39 am
... it should be 29,500 not 39,500 miles.
My fingers are a bit too enthusiastic.
You're not that far off.

Arena Red - Graphite Gray - Gray top.
Yes, we all were long-time waiters then, and the top topic was a discussion on Chuck's Board of how to remove the airbag warning stickers from the visors.

How important is it to flush the radiators? I don't recall seeing it as part of Porsche's recommended regular service.

Nothing is Lifetime Have been doing it approximately every 5 years. I can tell you the old stuff after years is clearer and not as greasy than the new coolant. Good insurance to protect the water pump

June 1997 build

I'm the original owner and still have it-54,000 miles.
Ordered January 1997 at LA Auto Show delivered July 1997. Never had a test drive or saw one in a show room.
Ordered options from a three ring binder on faith from the salesman.
Built of course in Stuttgart (all 97s were) AS/BR/BL the Boxster brochure car.
Been on PPBB since July 1997
Had May 1997 build
MarknearChicago - Sunday, 17 April, 2011, at 9:19:21 pm
I selected the colors and options early in 1997. As I recall it was built in May and delivered in late June or early July. Just got rid of it this January. Traded in on a 2000S 6sp. in very good shape - no paint work that I could find - and loaded with many options including factory installed Litronics and 25,000 less miles. At a price of $16K and $8K for mine, no way I couldn't do the sale. My old VIN was 23888 and had 78K miles.
