Products for your Boxster, Cayman and Carrera.
My 2006 Boxster is out of warranty and I have noticed that there is some light fraying of the material in both corners. I presently use the Porsche shampoo and conditioner.

Aside come keeping it clean, is there anything else that I can do to preserve the top?

If I go to the dark side, what would it cost to replace the top?

(I did a quick ebay search and was shocked to find a company offering them for $775 Link.)

Why did I think the top costs about $3k to replace?

I realize that I am not there in the short-term but would like to know for the future...

Thanks in advance...

Anthony
I just give those areas extra RaggTop; working it in with my fingers.
... there is a sharp fingernail-like piece of aluminum (one on each side).
It's screwed in.
Remove it.
Problem solved.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Any discernible function? *NM*

... just kidding.
It's a guide that's supposed to keep the top's frame more secure when down.
What happens is that as the material gets older it folds differently and gets caught between the frame and these fingers.
I've seen them cut right through the material.
They started showing up in 2003 and newer but the older cars don't have them.
My guess is that these fingers were added because of the added weight from the glass window.
After I removing them I haven't seen any adverse issues with the tops.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro.

Can you give me an idea of how (what is involved) to remove these screws?

I have the screw driver smiling smiley but no idea how to access the area between the convertible material and the frame? sad smiley
You have to...

... put the top in service mode (leave it about 18" from closing).
Now you can see in between the top and the liner.
You can push the liner and or the top for a better view.
Use a light.
IIRC the fingers are held in place with 2 torx (or hex) screws each.
