Getting the car ready for BRBS....
Dave In MD - Thursday, 14 April, 2011, at 9:19:08 pm
and the new Lloyd mats came in today. smiling smiley Also have a new set of wheels and tires that I picked up over the winter.

A couple of other items I'd still like to work on:

1) Since my new wheels show the lug bolts and the old ones were very bad looking and they're the original with autocross and track time I decided to spring for new ones. Any thoughts on painting the new ones to make them look better?

and

2) The headlight lenses are getting a bit foggy on the outside so I was thinking of polishing them. Has anybody done this? Somehow taking sandpaper to them with a drill seems like the wrong idea. Is there a less "all or nothing" way to polish then that someone has tried?

48 days and counting to BRBS!

New wheels and tires on the car and new Toyo R888s on the old wheels on the trailer. smiling bouncing smiley Taken two weeks ago at VIR.

... have a UV coating that will be stripped if you wet-sand them.
If you just polish them their surface will deteriorate very quickly.
You will have to give it a couple of coats of UV protector.
Happy Boxstering,

I don't remember seeing any in regular auto parts stores.
I have a commercial product...

... that is sprayed on with a paint gun.
It's a 5 step process, but it works great and is guaranteed for 3 years.
The product is expensive and not sold to the general public.
Happy Boxstering,

I used the 3M wet sand kit and it got the fog off. But as Pedro said without some sort of UV coating it came right back. I gave up and had a company called headlight doctor redo it about 1 year ago and it still looks good. They wet sand it and finish it off with an airbrushed UV sealant. Good luck.

Wish I knew about the UV coating before I used the 3M system. I think I did more harm than good.
Just get some 3M headlight protection...

I did that on my A4 (with HID). I polished the haze with the Meguire's headlight restoration kit (a buffer attached to drill). When that's done, I applied the 3M headlight protection over it. The 3M film has UV coating on it.
The headlights are not ...

... the same between the Audi and the Boxster.
I wouldn't recommend sanding off the UV coat without re-applying one afterwards.
The UV protection that's rubbed in is not the same as the one sprayed on which actually bonds to the plastic.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

wasn't comparing polycarbonate between Audi & P-cars...

as much as using the 3M headlight protection film to protect the lens after sanding. the 3m film is probably easier to find/order. that is all.
