PSA on Extended Arm Rests
MarknearChicago - Saturday, 23 April, 2011, at 8:58:36 pm
Hi,

Last January I sold my one owner 1997 Boxster as a trade in on a 2000S. Didn't want to go newer for a variety of reasons. First problem found was a balky shifter. The last S I drove had silky smooth shifting and my '97 was pretty good too. I did the gear oil change using P-car gear lube. No change! I decided to go look at the shifter. I took out the console and removed the add-on extended arm rest. I have not put it back together yet but the change was dramatic. This thing is shifting nicely. I'm suspecting that the rear plate in the extended arm rest was pinching or not allowing the shift cables to flex. The reason for the PSA is that maybe some of you have the same set up and are experiencing the same problem. Before I did this I did check for flexing in the front engine mount (none) and sprung shift cables by the transmission (none).

Next problems to tackle - how come the cup holders that I saved from my '97 don't work as well in the 2000S and rear speakers are not working.
