High Speed Event
sportys - Wednesday, 25 May, 2011, at 9:17:40 pm
Pedro, early in june I will be participating in a high speed event in my Boxster 987.1. On track events I have been able to do 130 with the top up on the straights... However, this is a flatout hold on, pedal to the metal top speed contest.

Only as an advice... top up, top down or hard top? any other comments on sustained high speeds?
The car has a better ...

... coefficient of drag with the top up.
The soft top is a hair better than the hard top (aerodynamically).
Also for maximum top speed you need to put some helicopter tape on the bumper's center radiator.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

... for the 3rd (center) radiator adds ) 0.02 to the 0.29 Cd of the non-opened bumper.
So, using racing tape or helicopter tape, cover completely the center opening to match the bumper's curve.
Helicopter tape is a very strong duct tape used on racecars and ... helicopters.
Also, if you can use narrower tires (all around) you'll be able to achieve a higher top end.
Make your run with the windows up and the A/C off.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro
