Air filter question
carlos in Montreal - Saturday, 18 June, 2011, at 11:20:22 am
I have a 2007 987 with 2.7l engine.

I'm about to replace my air filter and was wondering if I should I just replace with the OEM paper type or go with the so called hi-performance synthetic or cotton/oil type filters.

If I should go with synthetic or cotton/oil type filters what type and from whom?

Thanks

If you want high quality air/dirt filtration, the OEM paper type.

If you are willing to forgo some filtration, then the oiled filters being careful to not oil them to heavily and to let then sit and drip for a day before installation.

Think what high performance must mean...it must mean more airflow which must mean that the "holes" that allow air to flow must be bigger thus allowing larger (and more) dirt particles to get to the engine. Every test I ever read showed a clear difference in filtration and not much difference in power or at least not enough to make it worth my while. And the stock air filter is big enough (by dyno test) to allow enough air to flow to a much larger and more powerful engine than you are running.

Your opinion and wishes may vary.
Thanks!thumbs up *NM*
