In Canada, it's boring. Each province AFAIK gets one plate design. For example, Ontario's is:

Hasn't changed since the mid 90's when they started using the reflective paint.

It seems some States have 2 or more plate designs/colours. Is it year specific? special order? by county?

Just wondering,

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna
For Florida there ought to be a slogan option:

"Protect Our Reits"

Minus 40 degrees... Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius?

I've been SCUBA diving since I was 12.
Now I enjoy it with my boys and soon with my grand kids (I hope).

until I saw them on the Seal Grey Boxster. They look much better than the old blue on white combination in this instance.

I wish I could tell you. I'm an old fart and prefer the old ways of one plate, one state. It made it much easier to tell where a car is from. Let's say today, you witness an event and you can't get a plate number, in the old days you'd atleast be able to say it was a Grey Camry from Florida. Now, it's just a grey Camry from who knows where.
it has the added benefit of confusing the tourists

The purchase of many plate styles contributes money to a cause of the buyer's choosing. Seems like a good idea to me.
So, if you buy the "kid safe" plate the state gets a premium charge and a childhood safety charity gets a percentage, plus the free advertising on the plate.

The university alumni associations same thing.

It is easy money all the way round.
That's exactly what I was saying

Thought you were limiting the profit to the state.

At least here in Ct the supposed beneficiary is the charity, both through the "ad space" for lack of a better description, and through a vig on each plate. I didn't see that in your post, but I wasn't reading for absolute clarity.
