You need to spend time on the skidpad first learning how to control the car!by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I definitely like it! Looks like the best of styling cues on both the 986 and 987. Also - I am not sure they eliminated the clamshell - with all that snow and ice it is hard to tell - they may have just re-engineered the top so it looks and functions better. May also provide better engine access. The article mentions use of Panamera components in the interior - I hope they haven't tarted it uby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I wanted the all seasons so that I could use them for long trips in the spring/summer if I wanted to without burning up the expensive PS2 rubber on my 18s - I mean, no point worrying about threshold adhesion on I-95. And given the ride and noise of pure snows relative to the limited snow in the DC area (yes, even last year there wasn't that much compared to where I grew up in the Northeast) I waby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
It's the new Pocket-Kudzu, Gary. Thanks guys. Hope to see you at BRBS in Juneby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
So, put some All Seasons on the 16s this morning in anticipation of more snow and found the difference in handling marked, which led me to write this post. I have used three different tire/wheel combinations in the past year in various configurations. 1) 205/50/R16 Front and 225/50/R16 Rear (on 16x6 front and 16x7 rear rims) Toyo Proxes RA1s - I used these primarily for track and AutoX, althougby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

Was in the passenger seat. I met this attractive, tall , blonde in a bar in San Francisco (and yes, she was a she) and she took me for a ride in her red, V-12, E-Type Jag Convertible. It was one of the beautiful San Francisco nights - and one memorable ride!by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

Charlie and Omar are widely considered to be some of the most knowledgeable P-Car guys in the area - lot's of high end track hardware goes there for service. They have never steered me wrong and they REALLY know what they are talking about. The oil in the cats theory sounds reasonable, but I would check the oil filler tube or AOS vent line first.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Bad 02 sensors (which are a much more common issue on the 986) can cause a cat failure code. Curry's is good - I have always had good experience with them. Also, check out Intersport in Tyson's - they aren't cheap but Charlie and Omar are good guys and the KNOW Porsches (you should see some of the hardware sitting in their lot!) Finally, if the cats really are bad, check your county emissionsby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
If you are not a PCA member, you should join. Dues are about $45 a year, and Panorama alone is worth it. I have made many great friends through PCA.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Keep looking! 1) Car is overpriced, 2) Four years without maintenance is trouble -to JFP's point, the brake fluid alone should have been changed. The tires could have dry rot, and who knows what could be wrong with it. Further, I believe very firmly that these are cars that were made to be DRIVEN - and when they are not stuff starts to go wrong with them. There are a LOT of 986 S cars out theby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
If you have big wide rear wheels with low-profile tires, that is the kiss of death in snow.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
QuoteLaz Green Day American Idiot and so on.... "One of these things is not like the others . . . " - not that there is anything wrong with it. It's a great list!by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Great list Paul. Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker is a great song - and I seem to remember it from a very memorable movie scene . . . I noticed you don't have any Cars on your list - given the other songs, might I suggest Bye Bye Love, Shake it Up, or You Might Think?by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Try and come out. We have a lot of spouse-friendly events, and if you have special dietary requests, a lot of time I can get the restaurants to make accommodations. (beyond just salad or mac n' cheese)by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Kind of interesting to see the Diversity of Opinion on what constitutes driving music - and how different people's tastes are.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I am usually happy if I come out of it and the only thing ruined is my underwear. I actually started fishtailing aggressively on Connecticut Ave the other day - luckily no cars on either side of me - had two fishtails and I could see where it was going so I waited until the car was in the "straight" position in the pendulum and "did both feet in" - which worked - but I would not recommend it.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I think the 987 is a beautiful car, but that the 986 is the more timeless design. I think that the very simplistic, fluid styling and almost total lack of styling gimmicks makes it a beautiful timeless design, just like the E-type, an Austin-Healey 3000, or an Alfa Romeo Spyder. I agree that the 987 is much more current, but I think it has a lot more trim and styling gimmicks (like the two-toneby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
It has the worst of all possible worlds. No road feel, soft handling, can't get a manual tranny. And I don't know if you have sat in one, but the interior is very cramped - makes a Boxster interior feel like a Cadillac. I think M-B makes great touring sedans, and for regular driving and comfort, they are hard to beat. But IMHO they haven't made a decent sportscar since 1955.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
On Rennlist and Dorkiphus the user ID also includes a post count for that user. I find it helpful, as it tends to provide an indicator of how long that person has been on the board and, at least theoretically, how knowledgeable and/or involved they are - it allows me to weight their comments in my own thought process and adjust my own comments based on how much explanation I may think they need.by Red_Lightnin! - Board suggestions
Some of the tracks are a little "Jeremy Clarkson" but overall a pretty good selection of driving music for an album. Of course, for a single-band album, nothing beats AC/DC - just great "stomp the gas and take me to jail music" When I want good driving music, but a little mellower than AC/DC, I usually go for the Pretenders Greatest Hits, but Chrissie Hynde is an acquired taste.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I think that's right, Sean. If you get a 986 S for a good price ($15 - 16K) you can probably sell it in a year for $14-$15K and go buy a 987 if you decide you really want it, and the depreciation rate on the 987 is much higher now than on the 986, so the reduction in 987 price will probably be more than the depreciation on the 986. You should look at the one for sale on this Board in Annapolis.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
