There are places (like CT) that merely being in the car with the key is enough to constitute DUI. For instance, if you leave the bar and crawl in the back seat to "sleep it off" you can be charged. One would hope that prosecutors would exercise discretion and NOT charge, but they can and do. I had one case where the car was not operational - the engine was seized - and the guy was still chargeby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I had my hip replaced. in November. Before surgery - I couldn't comfortably drive the car. After the surgery not at all (yet). So I have a fear that I will be consigned to driving big (tall) vehicles to spare my hip further damage. Kinda stinks....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The next while will be a very trying time for you and the family. My sincere condolences.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
And there are plenty of posters who put there cars up for the winter. But if you are "fleeing" why not take the car with you? Best of all worlds.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Someone sent me the great old video. Hope the links work, I am WAY out of practice on board postings....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

I have had suspicions in the past. Among the MANY reasons I now do all my own work. I have heard tell about cameras and computer chips etc.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It was clear for most of the day, but on the way home on I-84 we hit a pretty significant downpour. At 65 ish, that was only a little problem. Then we hit slower traffic and the roof went up. Aidan did not believe it at first, but then he got excited about the whole concept. Winning...by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Thanks to J-Bird, we had our third TSBL event this year. We met at the JLG autocrib and Dr. Gish showed us his huge collection of Porsche's and his beautiful "garage" which makes a run at Jay Leno's famous place. Of course Dr. Gish only owns Porsche. After we went to the Oxford, CT airport for lunch. By all accounts a fun time was had by all. Now, if I could only figure out my camera.....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

I would never get a true reading with that. Plus my "under 50" torque wrench is a beam wrench rather than a clicker. Bottom line, I did not have the clearance nor could I get a decent reading even if I did.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
And Arena Red over Sand Beige is the best color combo. And I am a charter member of Save the Ambers. But I never did get jewels from Lefteris.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is really hard to get in there. Even harder to keep the hex socket seated. I was most concerned about keeping the torque even. I would imagine that uneven pressure cannot be a good thing. Only time will tell.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
After considering all the options and listening to Pedro's sage advice, I decided NOT to buy a new axle. Instead, I went the ebay route. I found a selection of axles between $60-80. I used the "make an offer" function and landed one for $50 (free shipping). The axle looked in decent shape - but there was a small tear in the boot right at the small side clamp. There was almost no seepage. Itby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
If you have an "s" you have three. If a base boxster, two. Here are pretty decent instructions for adding a third - which includes a description of the entire coolong system FYI.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
it is at the point at which the shaft was most heavily deflected when it was bent. If you have the shaft nearly straight, you don't feel it at all. In basic driving, it probably barely touches it. But it is clearly there. Based upon how long THIS mess lasted, I might be able to bend it close to roundish and reinstall. I might last another couple years. (or not). If I put it back in, it mby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The only thing I can imagine is that the tech who replaced my engine years ago dropped it on a the hanging shaft. There is no other way it could be bent that way. I am absolutely stunned it took this long to fail, and that the boot failed first. As you might expect, the boot was twisted all over, but it didn't leak. It was the extra stretch on one side that caused the failure. This just rby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Most recently on the Saab. The bolt is the same size so I have an impact socket all ready --- and here I thought I was wasting $20 (or whatever). I rented the ball joint tool last time. I forget whether it was autozone or napa, but that will be tonight's project. Pelican had the grease backordered. I would have had to wait until next week. There are several very good auto stores locally, soby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have seen a similar problem. In addition to the comments above, make sure you have the air conditionaing system checked. You do not want to be breathing rodent feces. A friend had that stuff in and could not get it out. Ultimately he had to get rid of the car. There are serious (bad) things in rodent feces. Do not take it lightly.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

but you knew that already. It is fair to say that you have more faith than I do about the possible contamination of the CV joint by a ripped boot. BTW -you point re: repacking vs rebuilding is clearly correct. To the extent my comment was confusing, I stand corrected. Am I paranoid? perhaps. But if I am going to take apart the assembly, why would I not remove all the grease and by extensionby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The outer bearing is not servicable, only the boot can be replaced. But you cannot do the outer without also doing the inner. In order to replace the outer boot, one must remove the inner CV joint entirely. That leaves the bare axle shaft over which the boot can pass. The bottom line is that to replace the outer, you need to open both joints. If you are opening both, you replace both bootby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The inner is serviceable. The outer is not.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
That one is not serviceable. If it was the inner, this is an easy conversation.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Called to double check, they claim they only carry CV shafts for the 3.2 liter S model. Other sites suggest the 2.7 and 3.2 are the same. So, "scratch head" does anyone know for sure? It does seem too good to be true, but who knows. They are represented as new, but ....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
In other cars the half shaft assembly is around $ 150 all in. One time, it was around $75. Both costs after core return... So if I can get new parts for so little and if I know my old shaft is getting rebuilt and recycled so to speak, why would I waste time and effort rebuilding. Now with the present car... The cost for new is prohibitive. The reputation of the rebuilder is questionable. Tby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
