I'm not sure I did the clutch fluid flush. Personally I believe the damage to the second gear wheel/syncro may have been mainly caused by the grinding that used to occur after the pop when this first occurred. On a slightly different note, what's the average clutch life in a 986 boxster?by ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi Pedro, It's a 2004 986 S 6 speed manual. Unfortunately I'm not in the US or anywhere where I can get a decent supply of used transmissions (or economically shipped) at a reasonable price. They opened the transmission today and I'm going with a repair to the second gear gears and guides. Apparently my shifting is not as good as I thought :-) Out of interest, once the transmission is droppedby ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi Guys, My 2004S has a terminal case of second gear pop under load(<30K miles). A good indy has taken a look at all the exterior possibilities and now needs to move to opening the gearbox. To give me an idea of my parts bill, would be interested if anyone can indicate the most likely internal parts that need to be replaced? From a few searches also on 996’s I believe this is such a commby ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi Based on Mike Focke's info and the fourth method (official Porsche TS at Can anyone advise if I need a full size 12V car battery or a small hobby type 12v battery will do? I guess it may just be easier to make jump leads to the full size battery in the other car that is going to have to jump the car eventually anyway? Cheers,by ouroboros - Main Forum
Great info, many thanks - never thought of that. Glad I can get the car back on the road and then install the TPMS kit when it comes.by ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi there, My SUV is out of alignment as it had a new suspension bushing and was incorrectly aligned so it's worn a tire very unevenly. I need to replace my front two tires before it goes to the dealer for a chassis alignment. At the same time I was going to retrofit TPMS valves but as I'm outside the US it will take some time for the specific parts to reach me. I want the car back on the road Aby ouroboros - Main Forum
After driving 1st to 3rd for too long I took it to the local Independent who looks after my car. They were very good, checked all the exterior linkage parts - nothing to be found there. Next step is removal of the gearbox and disassemble. No budget for the labour on the 'fun car' at the moment. On the basis it's probably the second gear dogring/syncro, I'm thinking of attempting to remove the trby ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi Guys, The DD is at the garage so I've been having some fun with the Boxster. 2004 S 500 SE. It's only got 26K miles on it and second will not stay engaged. It's popping out under any type acceleration. If I hold it in, it seems to engage after acceleration with a little bit of crunching and is then okay. However some pretty nasty crunching is going on when it's not engaging/popping out! Preby ouroboros - Main Forum
I thought option 1 was 2.9k in parts from one of the comments I saw? Guess it also depends on what failure is causing the problem- his cylinder issue was fixable.by ouroboros - Main Forum
Seems to be the new accepted unofficial service update from reading around! Good job I like maintaining this car and I'm actually looking forward to doing this(the first time anyway). Not sure all owners will find this a fun or cheap thing to do at every clutch change though !by ouroboros - Main Forum
20 30%? I bought one year old on my SUV and I think maybe this is the way to go for my future cars. I like my cars perfect and I had to fix a few interior things but I still saved a ton. I know you can always find an older perfect example if you have time but generally 1 year old cars should be easier to get back 'to new' condition.by ouroboros - Main Forum
Supercool.... I sometimes really wish I lived in the US so I could goto these types of events. Pedro...you need a holiday!by ouroboros - Blue Ridge Boxster Summit (BRBS)
Agree. Saw a older Black Boxster with Black painted matt wheels and black emblem - looked great. Not sure about the car washing frequency though!by ouroboros - Main Forum
I was driving with a couple of new 911 S's and an older turbo in convoy today as a few Suits from from the local importer looked like they were taking them for a cruise. I really like the back - especially the lights, but what's going on with all the lettering? It looks a mess with the old fashioned 'PORSCHE', then the 'Carrerra 911 S' in a completely different Font. Messy - I'd have to take someby ouroboros - Main Forum
I agree Dunlops are excellent. They were my latest choice for the 986 and they feel every bit as good as the Michelins and Pirellis I have used in the past. Kumho are awesome tires. I bought some for my AMG wheels on my Mercedes ML after reading Pedros reviews here. Much better then continentals on a SUV. I really think the European tires are overpriced based on the real market feedback that iby ouroboros - Main Forum
Only if the batteries are dead I guess. The originals in my Mercedes from 2008 are still going strong through 2 sets of tires.. Even so, 280 every 5 years for potential blowout advance notice.......priceless ( MasterCard)by ouroboros - Main Forum
Whilst TPMS is undoubtably a PITA is some respects. It's saved me a blow out on a highway on one of my cars. For that reason alone I'm adding it to the family car( can be enabled with manufacturer parts and minimal coding) For my 2004 986 I'd even consider an aftermarket solution. Anyone know of any decent ones with an output that looks reasonably integrated?by ouroboros - Main Forum
Great looking wheels..... Would look good on any 98x modelby ouroboros - Main Forum
Hi Guys, About to do my oil and filter change on my Mercedes ML550. Previously I've used a Mityvac suction tool. I was wondering if changing oil in this way somehow leaves oil behind at a low point that may accumulate sediment. Or does all the oil in an engine end up going via the filter so all oil in the engine is clean? Just wondering if I should do a normal change now and then. Also with theby ouroboros - Main Forum
So i'm saving some play money for Pedros powerkit for my 550. I guess it should take it close to 300. Pedro, whats next to meet the 100 hp per l goal?by ouroboros - Main Forum
Was following a Boxster at dusk this evening with the cool rear LED 'eyebrow' lights (987?). They look really nice For older cars I've seen replacement LED rear light modules but they always looked a bit naff. Given that the trend seems to be towards stylized LED lines within the light modules, would it be possible to get a line of LEDs we could plug into the light bulb (with a resistor I guesby ouroboros - Main Forum
I guess this problem for the latest is TechnoPower 4 or 5! Looking forward to ordering the TechnoPower 2 for my 986 when fun money allowsby ouroboros - Main Forum
With the knowledge in this community, knowing that Porsche uses common parts, it should be possible to drive a Boxster with the same hp from the above with the same engine: I.e from Pedro's response: Same ECU program Evuivalent Exhaust Equivalent throttle body, inlet, headers Whatevever else is needed So you can have a boxster + the max available horsepower, plus a logo showing what it has, wiby ouroboros - Main Forum
259 is pretty good. It was always 500 when I was thinking about this a few years ago. I'm still going for the telephone input aux first with no stereo!by ouroboros - Main Forum
I did replace the unit once with a 2 DIN unit. BUT I still needed the CDR 23 as the input to the MOST fibre bus, which I interfaced with over a FM modulator. Was not great. You could only replace the unit with a MOST compatible unit. Before the MOST cars came out I think it was a fully analogue systemby ouroboros - Main Forum
+3. Pedro certified numbers for 100hp/l ! For m96 also if possibleby ouroboros - Main Forum
I added a touchscreen DVD/Satnav 2 DIN unit for a while and went into the CDR 23 with a FM modulator. It sounded okay, but then I realized the maps & music on my iPhone were better than any aftermarket 2 din out there (even in the newest OEM car today). You can take an iPhone/iPod via the 3.5mm Becker telephone jack I think. Only Mono, but being as this sound system isn't the best, esp withby ouroboros - Main Forum
I'm sure a few pedro mods can take 92 to 102 hp/l. !! What are they doing differently in the Carrera. Is it all in the DME?by ouroboros - Main Forum
