10K track miles--wow! I think you got your money out of that motor. The new one should be a hoot to drive on the track.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Sounds like a great project, Grant. Always nice to have access to a shop and some friends for a job like this. Questions on the motor: I can't recall the origin as a track car, other than you bought it from Bruce--was this a junk yard motor? Miles on it when you got it? Did you do anything prior to installing it? Any guesses as to what all the pieces parts will cost when done?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Interesting how the make of the car comes up in this story; I'm thinking if this was a Ford Fiesta it may not have have been mentioned.by MikenOH - Main Forum
A couple of observations: Haven't heard an extended recording of the PSE on the 718S so I can't speak as to whether it would be an improvement over stock. At the price they charge for it, IMHO, it would have to be a substantial improvement to warranty the $. Regarding the Fabspeed exhaust system, it sounds more like a sports car exhaust than the stock version but still has the loud/odd overrunsby MikenOH - Main Forum
Great pic.We were just out there in August and thought it --along with Bryce Canyon--had some incredible views.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Quoteboxtaboy I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this is the most reliable car I've ever had. 15 years, and 72K miles on it. Ok granted, I don't have that many miles on it for the age of the car, but below are the only things I've ever had to replace on the car. Everything else is still original and working. All the instrumentation and dash bulbs are still working, the HVAC display is sby MikenOH - Main Forum
Nice video, Harvey. What rotors/pads did you go with? BTW, the AIM data logger and display is slick....by MikenOH - Main Forum
Quotejeff in VA The available tire sizes on the 718 Boxster S when you buy it new are 19" and 20", but Porsche sells a winter tire / wheel set for the 718 with 18" wheels. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different wheel sizes? I imagine the 18" wheels will be less prone to damage in pot-holes and such, but is there any issue with clearance around the brakes and such? I supposby MikenOH - Main Forum
Not a lot of detail, but it involves claims of altering mileage figures and CO2 emissions during the test of the EPA driving cycle via software that detected the "lab-test driving" via the lack of steering inputs. If it detected a "test" going on--somehow--the engine changed it's normal parameters to one that produced higher mileage and lower emissions. Lower shift speeds/lower RPM=better mileby MikenOH - Main Forum

From 28% In 2007 to 15% in 2015, as the car maker sells more cars. More SUVs and sedans in the mix, fewer sports cars as a % of cars sold during the years in question.by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario German car sales numbers aren't as readily available as they seem to be in NA. Here's what I found by doing some searching of previous articles in Auto Motor Und Sport. Boxster sales by month in Germany. More bad news on 718 sales. Guenter--do you know if sales for the 718 have been down in Germany--like in NA--since the intro date?by MikenOH - Main Forum

Unless they are understating the bump in the GTS package, it seems to track what they did with the 981GTS--25HP added to the CS, sport exhaust, sport suspension and some other do-dad's. Make no mistake, I liked the 981 GTS, but this just seems like another way to add a little to the package and really jab the price. As the OP said, the GTS package was added near the end of 981 run; the 718 has oby MikenOH - Main Forum

Yep--I was talking about the German slots that would be eliminated; 30K in all worldwide. Not replacing retirees and cutting back on part timers was mentioned the article I read. The other side of this is the number of jobs lost that feed off the 23k that will be eliminated--service workers, suppliers--that won't have those workers to support one way or another. 23K slots get eliminated in the coming years, supposedly partially offset with those added from the new electric car production.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Quotegrant while i appreciate a nice sounding motor, i've honestly been sitting here thinking "that's a lot of complaining about the sound, in what may be an otherwise good car". Now' I've driven that car and dont recall it sounding like that - so take some heart, you may not hear it all inside the cockpit. I'm nto sure where his mic was, or what exhaust might have been on it. But it went from tby MikenOH - Main Forum
The proposal would require electric car traveling under 19 mph to give off a noise that would alert those that are visually impaired of their presence. So instead of an exhaust note, you'll have---beep, beep, beepby MikenOH - Main Forum
The car looked fast, but the sound was, well, amazing..as amazingly bad. The car was clocked registering an exhaust of 99db at full throttle on the track--which means you get a warning--in a completely stock 718. I thought the exhaust was loud but 99db is way loud.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Two terrific videos that cut to the chase on the sound issue--one good, one not so good. Regarding the GTS, we had the chance to drive one last year at Mid-OH (w/PDK) and have to say we both laughed out loud when I got on it coming out of a turn on to the back straight--it wailed! I thought Chris's review was likewise on the money-- improvements for sure, but one huge step backwards with the exby MikenOH - Main Forum

Hal is a funny guy and a good Joe--always willing to help. BTW, that video I posted here a few years back of the battling GT3's at VIR involved him--with a pro driver driving his car-- and Mueller of your club in his 996. Hal was in the right seat and said it was a heck of a ride.by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 Mike, that begs the question - why didn't Porsche do it? There is a good reason for why the car sounds like it does--possibly a result of the plumbing downstream of the intake especially on the S--but at the end of the day, there has to be a way of either suppressing or disguising the cacophony that is now coming out of the exhaust pipe. Personally, I'd rather have an exhaust noteby MikenOH - Main Forum
