Roger, what is this? I don't ever recall it being discussed here. So, not only what is it, but what do you like about it? What did it cost? Is it dyi? Thanks in advance.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Thanks for the comments. The only thing that surprises me after reading about the steering, etc. is that the build quality seems so noticeable. Had a 99 base, now a 987. I find my 987 build to be terrific, but some of that may be due to the all leather interior. I would not spend the money on all leather, didn't spec my 986 that way, but the 987 was off the lot. At $80k+ my guess is that theby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Marc is correct (per usual), it routs air to help cool the breaks. Also cheap and easy to replace, so why not. But, the part is not critical for non-track driving. Any reasonably new car in decent working condition (brakes, fluid and tires) will make 1 and probably several emergency stops at 100% of the cars designed ability. The problem is with repeated very hard breaking the brakes can "fadby Bobtesa - Main Forum
For sure different strokes for different folks, some may like the Cayman better. Even though I don't much like the rear view of the Boxster (don't hate it, it is just not inspiring), I less like the mid to rear transition in the Cayman. It will be interesting to see how the new side vents work in both cars. I think it will look great in the Boxser and it may help the Cayman.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
The first car I ever owned with a sunroof was my 2000 Honda Civic daily drive to compliment by 1999 Boxster (first time that I owned 2 cars). I found that I liked the sunroof for many reasons (as others have posted). I can let the light in in the winter, but also I like the control of opening/closing it and the windows at any time at any speed. I found in the Civic that with the windows and suby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Like many improvements in cars, there have been improvements in aerodynamics. I do tighten my hat a little for highway driving (most baseball style caps are adjustable), but I don't find the wind in my Boxster anything like the small hurricanes in my TR4. I imagine the guy in the MG may actually need something to secure his hat at even reasonable speeds. Related to this topic: I don't use myby Bobtesa - Main Forum
They couldn't put a sunroof in the original Cayman, they said, because of the slant of the roof. The new 911s and Boxsters have a more steeply raked front windshield which produces a difference in the roof angle. so maybe this will change the Cayman roof in such a way as to accommodate a sunroof.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Guenter, yes, from what I learned from our German friends rules of the road are both known and obeyed in Germany. It is like a duty to move over for faster moving cars. They also told me that in Germany Beemer drivers are considered pricks and Porsche drivers are considered courteous! Which in Germany vs. the U.S. turns this joke on its head: What's the difference between a Porsche and a porcby Bobtesa - Main Forum
About 10 years ago my wife and rented a car in Milan and drove it south for about 10 days. Ended up in Rome and flew home. We were in something equivalent to say a Honda Civic. About 30 minutes out of the city on a 4 lane divided highway and without knowing or thinking, I was in the fast lane. I am pretty much always a tuned to my rear mirrors, but what came up on my ass happened soooo fast iby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I agree about not wanting to have to "think" about things when driving in situations that may require quick responses - like passing. (Of course, one way to pass w/o worrying is to MAKE SURE there is plenty of room, and that's always good advice anyway.) Having driven manuals all my life, and now well into my 60's, one thing that I was uncomfortable about with pdk when I had a loaner for a longby Bobtesa - Main Forum
For sure, if the manual explains that in full manual mode a pdk tranny should up shift at redline, then I suspect yours is not working properly. And, I agree with you about how the software should work: 1) it should upshift for you so that you are not left w/o power in an emergency (like you can be in a manual); 2) I don't know how it is programmed, but pdk should NOT let you downshift to a geaby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I don't have pdk, but if Porsche has set it up to behave in a "true" manual mode, then it shouldn't shift at the rev limiter (redline). It might make sense for it to do that, but then I guess that is what the "automatic" mode is for. Don't listen to the the guy behind the curtain. These things start getting fun and sounding great at 4K+ rpms and higher. And, they are meant to be driven that wby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I could be wrong, but something in memory recalls that several years ago Porsche upgraded the Boxster brakes to BoxsterS brakes, so no difference there.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I checked Pedro's DYI's and didn't see it. I know it has been discussed here. I need to replace the bulb(s?) that illuminate the large "dials". The lights below the large dial works. Is there a DYI about how to do that in a 987? Or, a 986 as it is likely the same or a very similar process. Thanks, Bobby Bobtesa - Main Forum

Frogster and everyone else, I cetainly took no offense at anything said in this discussion and I hope no one else did. There isn't a right or wrong way. It's communication. If people know what they are talking about and a listener understands, then you have communicated. I am always happy when folks in South America understand by quite limited, and heavily gringoized Spanish. But, I get my bby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I don't have a single example, but I would bet there are a million different ways that various branded products are pronounced in a slightly different manner in different countries. I wonder how the Japanese pronounce Rolex?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Sorry, I disagree that there is 1 correct way to pronounce Porsche, or pretty much any foreign word in a different country. This is the point I tried to make above in this post, but apparently not very well. If there is 1 correct way to pronounce Porsche in the States, then how is it that we say we drive German cars, when the Germans do not call them German cars because they do not call their cby Bobtesa - Main Forum
No expert am I in language, but I find language issues interesting. Why are we so concerned about how we pronounce "Porsche", as a German (oops, I mean Deutschland), or Austrian (what do they call themselves) word when we don't use the word for the county that the inhabitants use?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
The ticking increases in frequency with increases in RPMs, kind of like valve knocking rises with RPMs. It's not an exact match, but pretty close. Would expanding exhaust parts do that?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I guess I should try that before doing way more than is needed.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
lithium, it doesn't look to tough. I assume there is no reason to remove the top piece if I am going to replace the whole thing. Or, do I need to remove the top piece to be able to reach the nuts below? I guess I'll answer that myself when I give it a try.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I can't get my hand down into the area below the spoiler to give a good cleaning down there, so I am going to remove it.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I've been off the board for awhile, so this is just catch up. I posted in February or so about a clicking/ticking sound coming from the back on cold weather mornings (under say 35 degrees) that goes away as the car warms up. Several folks ask for follow up when I learned what it is. Well, we had an exceptionally mild winter and I never got it to the dealer (still under warranty) for a look seeby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I'm starting to do my spring cleaning, wash, wax, wheels off, lexol leather, etc Does anyone remove their spoiler for cleaning in that area? I've always thought about it, but never tried. It's an 08 and it looks like it is held in place with 4 torx nuts. It is that simple or am I going to regret trying to remove/replace it? Thanks in advance, Bobby Bobtesa - Main Forum
