Pedro, Marc, thanks for the advice. I'll go out today, lower the top and take a look see into the window groove. But, no matter what I do, I'll take it to a pro for any final assessment or fix. It sounds a bit tricky and experience is required. The window does not let any water in. But, there is something also a little odd in how the window works. Thanks Marc. I seriously doubt that a screw is involved. It is a glass rattle sound, not anything metallic. Can I adjust this on my own or does it require getting inside the door panel?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
My 08 has developed an obnoxious driver's side window rattle. I have played with window positions, and it is clearly only when the window is completly closed. Even opened an 1/8 inch it does not rattle. So it has something to do with how the window seats in the top section section. Any suggestions? Thanks Bobby Bobtesa - Main Forum

The metal hood crests seem to be build well and to last forever. But, my over-priced plastic wheel crests have faded. Is there a DIY method or a place that refurbishes the plastic wheel crests?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Year around I try (snow and travel the exceptions) to drive my Box 2-3 times per week. Nice weather, longer drives. Nov-March still 2-3 times per week, but only enough to fully warm it up. Still, even on my short winter drives, after warm up, I hit 6 to 6.5K rpms at least twice. I figure if there is anything to the "washing" the IMS with oil theory, then that is when I am doing it. Mike and Pedro, All good points. One other idea that I'll throw in is that by the time my IMS blows, if it does (at 5K/yr it will be 17 years from now that I expect to hit 100K, and at 64, I'm less likely to be here than the car when I'm 81!), then mechanics might have worked out ways to install non-IMS engines. That will solve the problem permanently. For my daughter :-)by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Pedro, I wrote above that if my 987 IMS replacement requires an the equivalent of an engine tear-down and rebuild, cost-wise how would that compare with replacing the engine? Or, to think about it another way -- Suppose I have the engine taken out and the IMS replaced every 100,000 miles. And, I do this twice at 100K and 200K, and the cost of each is half the cost of a new engine. Then if Iby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Mike, as usual thanks for the detailed information. I did not know when I bought my 08 that replacing the IMS would require the equivalent of an engine rebuild. As I see it, there are now 3 IMS Boxster groups. Those that can replace the IMS at a reasonable expense (1997-06), those that can replace the IMS as a very expensive proposition (06-08), and those that do not have to worry about the IMby Bobtesa - Main Forum

My 99 had black seat belts. They didn't show dirt even after 10 years and I never cleaned them. But, I now know that they must have been pretty dirty. My 08 has silver seat belts and they do show dirt. I tried to clean them for the first time today. I first used Johnson's baby shampoo just be on the mild safe side. Not much happened. So, I went nuclear with p21 citrus degreaser. A littleby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Jack, thanks for the info about Euro imports and Peter. It's a valuable contribution to boarders to get + or - input about local indies (and dealers if you use them). I posted here about a DC area indy that I now use, but if I recall correctly, I did not post his name, but provide his name in PM to some one. So, to post on the board, in addition to Peter's shop (which I have not used and can nby Bobtesa - Main Forum
This has probably been discussed here, but other than spending a few more bucks, are there any real benefits from using a carbon filter over a paper filter? I mostly drive in the country with either the top down or the windows open so plenty of air is getting into the cabin anyway. Maybe there is a benefit when driving in hot or cold cities with windows closed where there is more pollution. Otby Bobtesa - Main Forum

If memory services me (it rarely does), some one posted here quite a while back about saving money on replacing the AOS if you DIY. It is an expensive part, $500+ or so, but the writer here said that you can get an identical part that is in VWs or Audis', don't recall which, for about half the price. Having said that, I could be thinking of a totally different part! But, if this is right, it cby Bobtesa - Main Forum

This may not help, but if memory serves me, there is a way to "reset" the window operation. Try raising and lowering the windows completely once or twice. I never had this problem in my 99, but years ago I think folks with window raising/lowering problems fixed it with this methods.by Bobtesa - Main Forum

From the Porsche link that Guenter provided, "The gearbox is bolted to the body by two mounts. Like any mass, it obeys the law of inertia. This means that it will continue moving in a uniformly straight line unless some force causes it to change direction. Put more simply: when you are driving into a bend, the vehicle will follow your steering but, at first, the mass of the drive train will not.by Bobtesa - Main Forum

Do you have any idea why the torque for the lugs has increased so much? Does anything look different? The lugs themselves? Do you have spacers? Not an engineer, I wonder what would require more pressure for the wheels.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
My 08 RS60, on the lot, came standard with the multi-spoke wheels. Although very nice looking, I couldn't fit my hand through the spokes for cleaning, so I asked if they would switch them out for the standard 19" BoxsterS wheels. No problem, switch with another car on the lot. Probably a few bucks for them, but cleaning is easy. I still remove the wheels every 3-4 months for full scale cleaniby Bobtesa - Main Forum
An economist wrote an op-ed yesterday in the WSJ that devaluation of the Euro would greatly help Europe by helping exports. If that reduces the price of a Boxster I'm all for it! We seems that we in the US for reasons that I don't understand already enjoy favorable pricing compared with other countries, but hey, knock a few more bucks off and the new Boxster looks that much betterby Bobtesa - Main Forum
