What year is your car? I swear I looked behind my headlight and didn't see anything.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I had a similar issue on my 98 and bought both valves - I got the one on the evap canister replaced, but for the life of me could not find where number 9 is either - I looked all over the wheel well, followed the lines, etc - the car still whistles some, and I'd like to get the other valve replaced, but have no idea where it is. Hopefully someone on here has BTDT and had details about its locatiby steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I assume that it's the same kit for both a 2.5/2.7?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I'm swapping out my thermostat, and while I am going to save the coolant (it was just changed a few years ago), I could probably use another quart. Just wondering if someone has less than a full gallon laying around they would be willing to part with - I will pay fair price for it. steve DOT wilwerding AT gmail DOT comby steve_wilwerding - Parts for Sale
After putting in the new engine, I have found, on the racetrack, that it would be really nice to have an LSD in the transmission. The transmission is in reasonably good shape, but I figure, if they're going to be in there, why not just rebuild the worn pieces. Does anyone have recommendations on a good shop to do this?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
My absolute favorite part of the job is measuring the fluid 11 mm below the fill hole - my question - why didn't they just make the fill hole 11 mm lower, and fill until full?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
The best explanation with pics is in the Bentley manual.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I agree that that is the function of the flaps - it's interesting during our race I was looking over the Spec Boxsters, and they all have mesh inserts in the plastic wheel liners to allow the radiator heat to flow directly into the wheel well. I assume that it helps both engine and brake cooling.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
After getting some sticky tires and having the car tuned properly with the 3.4, had an absolute blast at the track last week. However, when I pulled the tires to change the brake pads back to streets, I noticed that the insides of the tires were hardly worn at all (enough that the wheel leans). I have camber maxed out with the US M030 suspension on the car, but it's obvious I need more. It seemby steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
There are a number of people in Omaha who drive Boxsters as daily cars. However, there are maybe 5 days a year you can't use them because the snow is too high, so on those days, plan to find other transportation arrangements (which sounds easy if you can walk to work). Also, plan on buying a spare set of wheels with snow tires. Otherwise, should work fine.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
The guy who did mine kept the 996 plenum, but used a Cayman airbox. The engine is mounted lower in the car.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
Looking to buy a track timer, and have heard good things about the AIM Solo. Anyone else have experience? It would be nice to buy the DL, but it sounds like the only thing you can get out of the '98 Boxster OBD Connector are RPM and battery charge, which wouldn't be that helpful. Comments appreciated - thanks.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I've noticed a whistling coming from my gas cap area during drives, and it really howls for about a minute when I turn the car off. If I undo the gas cap, that seems to alleviate the sound. I've seen some posts that the gas cap seal may be bad, others that say it's the relief valve. Anybody have experience with this and have an answer?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
Back to the oil topic, I talked with a mechanic the other day about diesel vs. gasoline oil - he said that diesel formulations tend to have zinc and other compounds that don't usually harm the engines, but can't plug up cats. He didn't recommend running diesel oil in a gas engine with cats.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
The front and side views are good, but looking from straight back, the rear bumper is way too rounded and bulbous. I agree with Charlie - not the car I fell in love with.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum

I just swapped a Fabspeed into my Boxster, so I now have my NHP components for sale (they only have about 1000 miles on them): NHP muffler: NHP headers: In addition, I also have a custom-built PSE muffler. All of the components were given rave reviews from my friends for their sound, but didn't end up working well for my engine swap. I have been using Pagid Oranges for track pads, and have been very happy, except that they leave so much buildup on the rotors as to make the car nearly undriveable when I put the street pads back on. A few places on the Internet have good things to say about Carbotech XPS10s. Anyone run these? Any other suggestions?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
If you're purely street driving, I would recommend Porsche oil. If you're doing track driving, I went with the Redline cocktail 7 years ago and have been very happy with it. It doesn't work great when the weather is below about 50 degrees (at least when you first start and until the transmission gets warm), but if you are going all out at the track, the shifts are like butter. The car is not undby steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I've had the BFG KDWs now for about 4 or 5 years, and have been very happy with them. Great street tires, great DE tires, still somehow get soft on the track after years on the car. Plus, they can easily be driven in the rain. Best tires I've had so far.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I picked up a Stanley charger/maintainer for $19 at Menards in November - worked pretty well so far.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
I can't speak to how much labor costs, but it seems like a new clutch kit is around $300-$400. If it were me, I would strongly think about installing a new RMS and the LN IMS update. I did that before my motor swap, and the piece of mind is well worth it.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
My only idea is to make sure that the drains are clear.by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
About to put the Boxster away for the winter, and rather than disconnect the battery as I normally do, thought I would put on a trickle charger. I came across this one - does anyone else use a trickle charger through the cigarette lighter?by steve_wilwerding - Main Forum
