The garage I've been using to service the boxster for the past 15 years called and said the Boxter's passenger airbag deployed while it was at a standstill right after starting the car. The car was in for a tie-rod replacement and just came back from being aligned. The place has always been great and I trust that they do what they say. They don't want to restart the car for fear of other bags gby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
The head unit that is there is starting to fritz... any suggestions? Would be nice if it was, but not necessary, Car Play compatible. Then again, I might just reinstalled the OEM unit and call it a day :-)by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
It cannot come soon enough!!!by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
No remote entry or it doesn't work? Sorry I wasn't clearer... I did see that you said the immobolizer was "dry," but if the you DO have remote entry and that it DOESN'T work...it might point to a problem with that. A reach, but you have already looked at the "low hanging fruits" :-) So I thought I would chime in with something even if it seems unlikely.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
RainyDayMagazine was in Los Angeles in February for a break from the New England weather. While we now know that March was when we should have gone, being out there a month early did not make the experience any less enjoyable....by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Wouldn't it be cool when the day comes when we can print our own parts :-)by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Our 2000 Boxster with Tip started slipping badly when it hit around 155K...we had it rebuilt for $4K by a shop that did Audi transmission. They gave a 3 yr/30K warranty. It has been a year and about 7K...so far so good :-) Would love to see it hit 200K.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
In August we posted a FirstLook of the Auto Chic custom car cover for our 16-year-old Porsche Boxster. Because we are in the city, the Boxster is out in the elements 24/7. To protect the paint, dash, and other interior surfaces from damaging UV rays, bird crap, and other debris, we have had a cover for the car pretty much its entire life. Here is a quick write-up of the cover after a few rain sby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
it works great once you get used to the funky way of connecting to the Bluetooth device. We wrote it up because it was so confusing.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
The car is driven all year long and in all kinds of weather. It is covered whenever it is in the driveway because there are three large cottonwood trees right above it with all the birds, bugs, and leaf-related issues one normally associate with such close proximity to nature :-) And you are correct, having had the car covered whenever possible, the leather on the dash and the finish of the carby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
It is not often one gets to look across a span of time and pull together a series of thoughts on one product category. We thought those who live in an environment without a covered spot for their Boxster may benefit from our experiences with 4 different Boxster covers: Less relevant for those fortunate enough to have access to a garage :-)by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Here is the write-up on the ODB-2 reader: Really like how the CEL can be reset without having to take the unit to the computer as we have had to do with the CarChip.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
For those who have struggled with installing a new Boxster brake light switch... here is a tip: File the notch on the switch a little bigger before trying to install it. It will save you a lot of cursing :-) The full writeup of the DIY is here:by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
The 10-year old iPod-capable unit currently in the Boxster is really showing its age :-) Looking to see if I should just re-install the old Porsche OEM unit which came with the car or upgrade to a CarPlay capable unit. Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum

The RainyDayMagazine crew has been attending the NY International Auto Show for almost a decade. We have seen a lot of changes with the cars, but the one thing that stayed the same was how well car companies treat the press... which is why we go on Press Day :-) This year was no different. Volvo started the morning off right with a champagne toast of their 90th year. Of course, being an old handby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Agreed. I did read up on Pedro's article on replacing the electric portion. The question is still, will anything drain the battery if left in the "no clunk" condition....by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Normally, removing the key will result in the familiar "click" and the powering off the radio and other things. Lately, the "click" sometimes doesn't happen. I have been manually turning off the radio, but am wondering if the battery is being drained by other things which may be left on. Any thoughts?by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Don't think I've posted this link.... Porsche Day at the Auto Museum in Brookline MA this year.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Next is to find a local garage that other Porsche owners trust and get a less ridiculous answer.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
FNA took the car back and returned it a week later. Have driven it for about 50 miles and have experience no problem with the tiptronic missing shifts in city traffic. Have not taken it on the highway yet just due to the lack of time, but it is looking good. According to Gerardo's where I took the car, FNA takes really good care of their customers and the 3-year / 36K mile warranty is their wayby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
They are the one used by the local dealer.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Brought it back this AM... they are going to take a look at the torque converter. There is a 3yr, 36K warranty on the rebuild and apparently many of the BMW/Audi/Porsche dealers locally use them...so I'm not that worry that I'm going to get stiffed.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
After 150+K miles, the tiptronic transmission needed a rebuild. Got the car back and drove it for about 40 miles... notice some missed shifts, some lurching, and rough shifts in city traffic (10-40 mph between lights). The first 20 miles had a lot more "rough shifts" ...maybe about 8? than the last 20... two? Most were between going from 2nd to 3rd, some between 3rd and 4th. They typically happenby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Not odd at all. Pretty sure you are the norm. We all have emotional investments in the things we own. While many of us are OK with "sharing" with friends, it is a huge hurdle to "share" with a complete stranger. The emotional ties are going to be even stronger for a personal sports car. However, what if you could drive one from Leno's or Seinfeld's collection?by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
In the new "sharing economy," would you let other Porsche/Boxster/ sports car owners drive your car ...if they let you drive theirs? How about for a fee? How about if there is a company that will put the driver/car owners together, along with the insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance, etc? The thinking is when you are in another city, you can "rent" a car from another owner...much along the lineby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
This looks like a pretty fun build....by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
