Guenter, I almost never used the radio in my '99, and the same holds true currently with my '08 Boxster S. Like you, can't find any music to compete with the engine.by Bob G - Main Forum
I had a '69 Alfa 1750 Spider Veloce for 14 years. A friend still has it, takes good care of it, and drives it in good weather. It was not a trouble-free car but it remains one of my favorites. Haven't seen a 4C yet but it seems to me that it and the Cayman are not really comparable. The 4C seems more raw-boned, more in the traditional sports car idiom, the Cayman more luxurious, better suited foby Bob G - Main Forum
Sorry the BMW hasn't worked out for you, JM. The 2011 328iX we've had for almost on four years now has been trouble-free in all respects, and delivers fine performance within its power parameters. A very different car from our '08 Boxster S? Of course. but still a quality car. My only niggle is that I prefer a larger sedan for the driving we do; that's not the car's fault, tho. That said, I've dby Bob G - Main Forum
My first Boxster, a '99, was unfortunately a similar case, with engine problems from the first day I had it. After six weeks of flat-bedding, much dealer shop time, a new cylinder head that was also defective, etc., the dealer and PCNA told me "We want to replace your car." A week later I picked up another new Boxster -- very similar to the first one but with additional attractive options, all gby Bob G - Main Forum

Like it or not, for obvious reasons small-displacement turbo fours are the coming thing. As unappetizing as this may seem, modern design and engineering have teamed to produce engines of this description that are not constantly reminding us that they're fours. Better engine mounts and sound insulation have damped out most of the NVH traditionally associated with inline 4s. BMW's N20 Twin-Power Foby Bob G - Main Forum
Not only less grip, nine-year-old tires can give up the ghost without warning. Bad news on a hairy car like the Carrera GT.by Bob G - Main Forum
I've driven the F30 model, Roger, and definitely prefer my E90. While there's more power, the "Twin Four" lacks the sweetness of my inline six. And the shut-off/restart is annoying. I'd hate to have to keep defeating the function every time I got in the car. As you said, the Boxster and BMW are apples and oranges, not comparable.by Bob G - Main Forum
I am sorry that your new (to you) car disappoints you, JM. I don't know which particular BMW you are discussing, but I've owned an '11 BMW 328iX for 3 1/2 years. Other than its dimensional limits (I feel a 5-series/M-B E-Class/Audi A6 or such would fit our travel needs better) I've been quite pleased with the car. The I-Drive (a nightmare in its original iteration) is much simplified and becomeby Bob G - Main Forum

Although he held an honorary engineering degree, he was an industrialist/entrepreneur, and not an engineer per se.by Bob G - Main Forum
In the 356/1 horsepower question ("brake", not "break") there was no specification as to DIN or SAE. Also, in reference to Grant's point, who really was the "designer"? A blurry line. How much input did Prof. Porsche actually have? Komenda may have done the body design, but then how about the engine, and other aspects? My info had that the Porsche Design Bureau did the original Tiger, but theirby Bob G - Main Forum
Couldn't resist a smile just now. While PCA declined to enter the IMS fray on behalf of affected members, I see it accepts advertising revenue from aftermarket suppliers selling improved IMS bearings.by Bob G - Main Forum

I know. But the article makes the point it's unusually difficult to drive, even for a high-performance car.by Bob G - Main Forum
The full link doesn't want to paste here, but Autoweek Racing Report has an article this morning on the Carrera GT and how difficult it is to drive at speed, based upon Jay Leno and David Donohue driving it at Talladega some time ago. Leno (and the car) survived a "terrifying" 182-mph spin on the front straight unscathed, Afterward the comedian was appropriately self-effacing about his limits asby Bob G - Main Forum

I saw all these posts from "waiters" and wondered why the Boxster had so much appeal to people in the food service business. 'Course, I was a waiter at that time, too, for my '99.by Bob G - Main Forum
Really nice, Doug! I added the clear side-markers and colored center caps after the pic was taken. What # is yours?by Bob G - Main Forum
On many cars with a balky N-to-1st, it seemed to help when I selected 2d first, and then slid the stick forward into 1st. I almost wrote "2d 1st", and immediately thought of the old Abbott and Costello "Who's on first?"by Bob G - Main Forum
Have to agree on the gearing, Bob. Of course, has Porsche ever considered US driving conditions in gearing its North America-bound cars?by Bob G - Main Forum
