i’ve already put in the reservation with my kids…one of them will be pushing my wheelchair!by SMILIN - Main Forum
no kidding. there were times when we were disoriented thinking the highway was divided by a strip of trees. nope, opposite lanes were right next to us…just nobody going that way. the cartoon was an accurate drawing of route 87 on the afternoon of 4/8/24.by SMILIN - Main Forum
stayed with a friend in manhattan. left at 5am and made it to plattsburgh in 4.5 hours! great easy drive. lucked out and found an event at the city beach park and got in just before they closed the gates. eclipse was AWESOME!!! drive home…well, we paid the price…10.5 hours to get back. SO TOTALLY WORTH IT…SEEING A TOTAL ECLIPSE WAS BETTER THAN HAVING A 160k mi 986 WITH NO IMS, RMS, POROUS Bby SMILIN - Main Forum
i’ll be invading your state for the eclipse. starting in manhattan at 6am? thinking of driving north thru albany towards plattsburgh, with no particular destination, ok just pulling off the side of some road. what’s the buzz…will there be major congestion adding hours to the trip? is syracuse, then north a better route? we are literally driving 5+ hours, sitting around, driving back. becausby SMILIN - Main Forum
yeah, it’s nothing special, i guess, but it should be!!!by SMILIN - Main Forum
‘98 w 156k miles. 16k miles and 8yrs on replacement clutch. original IMS and RMS. i don’t drive the car regularly anymore…sometimes several days in a row, other times not for a week or two. i’ve recently started having intermittent clutch shudder. by intermittent, i mean that it occurs only every few trips, but the whole trip. other trips are fine. no slipping ever. is this possibly an iby SMILIN - Main Forum
thanks. i ordered a set from pelican a couple of years ago. i hope to get it installed in the next year or two. “Headlight Sealing Rubber for 986 and 996(1997 Porsche Boxster Base Convertible)(m)”by SMILIN - Main Forum
thanks for the report. i just installed the pair of DMEX lights off of amazon…$30. new bulbs are 6000K so are a bit whiter, brightness seemed about the same. i STILL haven’t broken anything on the old lights/connectors, but give me some more time as i plan to replace the black rubber trim around the headlights next.by SMILIN - Main Forum
will report back…by SMILIN - Main Forum
1) confirmed that it’s just the bulb. D2S 35W 85123 2) wiring looks amazing for 25 years old 3) i didn’t break anything during the L/R swap now i just need to decide if i’m going to cheap-out or get the Philips extreme vision gen2 yadda yadda…by SMILIN - Main Forum
thank you. testing the bulb is on the list for today, especially after reading posts about crispy/shorting wiresby SMILIN - Main Forum
thanks, yes, that’s currently top of my list (link brings up a 35w model, which is oem for my lights)by SMILIN - Main Forum
i got the kit from suncoast in 1999. best $1100(i think) ever thanks. yes i plan to replace both. just wading thru the dozens of options. too many choices!by SMILIN - Main Forum
After 25 years with the Litronic retrofit headlights in my 986, I finally had a bulb burn out. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices of new bulbs. Any recommendations? I’m happy to replace both at the same time. I rarely drive at night, so I’m not interested spending a fortune on them…<$150 a pair max. Something in the 4000K-5000K temp. And from a reputable US source. Looks like any D2by SMILIN - Main Forum
ah, so OCD for you too, eh! my ‘98 is the same. don’t know if they can be adjusted. i just do a one-touch and forget it approach. i bought a REALLY cheap window regulator for my SUV and the L vs R windows now move very differently. I figured that when it bugged me enough, I’d buy two new REALLY cheap regulators so they worked equally slowly and with matching squeaks.by SMILIN - Main Forum
everyone will miss you, pedro. ok, who else will be there? i’ll be the guy in the black pedrosgarage hatby SMILIN - Main Forum
will you be at rennsport reunion? if so, i’ll wear the orange hat so you can find me and i can buy you a drink. otherwise, for the rest of you, it’ll be the black hat and i’ll be in a shaded chair up in the corkscrew. snafu with usps, so unsure if i’ll be there with SMILIN (corral 6) or suv (dirt hill).by SMILIN - Main Forum
sorry for all of the issues. glad that nobody was hurt!by SMILIN - Main Forum
looks like we had the same seats. i’ll correct my statement to say low, ineffective headrests. at 6 feet tall, i envisioned my head snapping off in an accidentby SMILIN - Main Forum
very nice. i love that last picture! ours was a ‘68 also. as you say, life happens, and we sold it. i live in the foothills with two significant climbs and mostly freeway driving to get home from work. lack of head rests and shoulder belts and airbags and 30 years of other safety improvements scared me, and the car didn’t exactly move up those hills.by SMILIN - Main Forum
your car looks great. and everything chocolate is just…straight up smart!by SMILIN - Main Forum
i’ve been digitizing old photo albums and came across this 25 year old picture of the car that inspired first my 986, then my white spyder. this car bounced around my family for 30 years, first owned by my grandparents, then with me and my siblings each driving it for a few years, and mom and dad commuting with it. i still prefer the rounded fenders of the 986 to the lines of the 718…just likby SMILIN - Main Forum
i’m not informed on possible reasons for this, but my approach, if your battery is over a few years old, head to costco and pick up an interstate h6 or h7 94R agm and try that. cheap and easy troubleshooting step #1by SMILIN - Main Forum
