I was able to get ahold of an Interstate rep who explained that I should just get the new model of the old battery. Now it is the MTP-48/H6. And I have located one nearby. I still am bamboozled by the sizing codes.by catalogguy - Main Forum
Congrats on the new one! Thanks for sharing stories about your 986.by catalogguy - Main Forum
Thanks, yes it does show on the site, but so far the half dozen places I have checked do not have one. So the search continues.by catalogguy - Main Forum
I need to replace the battery in my 2000 986S. Years ago I believe the cage was expanded to accommodate a larger battery. The current one is a big Interstate with 850 CCA. Looking online, that model (MPT-93) has been discontinued. The replacement has a much lower CCA. I am also concerned about fit. I do not understand the battery sizes. H6, H7, H8, 46, 48, 93??? How do these codes relatby catalogguy - Main Forum
I have #21618 display with #21611 receiver. I bought it new in probably 2000 or 2001. It had light use, and looks amazingly clean. I have original box and packaging. Is this still in use? I see Longacre has a new model, and I do not know whether this old model is compatible with the new transmitter, or whether people at the track are still using this one. If you think it has value, please offerby catalogguy - Parts for Sale
I am removing the rear console in my 2000 Boxster. There is a "coin holder" inside the little storage compartment. I understand that there is a screw under there that to be removed requires that I take out the coin holder. I am talking about the little vertical black ridgy thing that holds quarters. I found reference online to using a small flat screwdriver at the bottom. There is a little tby catalogguy - Main Forum
AMG Performance Secret I saw a new CLS 63 AMG on the road today. What caught my eye was not its striking appearance, but it's bolting onto the freeway and across several lanes, landing forward of me in mine. What performance. I thought that perhaps AMG has achieved such nimbleness by lightening the load, unburdening the transport of equipment that must have become superfluous: turn signals.by catalogguy - Main Forum
I've run into a couple issues replacing the oxygen sensor, and they result from the aftermarket exhaust headers I had installed on the car over 10 years ago. Back then, they were new and the only headers available for the Boxster. I have learned about my situation from my recollection of the mods, inspecting the current setup, and posting here and on Rennlist. The headers removed the pre catsby catalogguy - Main Forum
I am studying up on the exhaust systems and think it's possible that the aftermarket headers did away with the quick warming catalytic converters, and the post sensors were removed to another location. The stock location had the post sensors between the 2 converters, and the modification placed the post sensors behind the second converters, the same spot they were installed in the MY 97-99 cars.by catalogguy - Main Forum
With the car up on jack stands, the o2 sensors are a breeze to find. Not so easy is where the rear sensor connects. I took pics and videos of the wire trailing out of the sensor, I couldn't nail it down. It does not seem to be like the photo in the Bentley book. Could the installation of headers have caused something to be rerouted or reconfigured? I am replacing the rear sensor, and the cby catalogguy - Main Forum
OK. Seems easy enough to omit it. Various articles say something like the following: "Hot Tip: Use anti-seize compound on the threads of the sensor to make it easier to replace it next time" http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/19-FUEL-02_Sensor/19-FUEL-02_Sensor.htmby catalogguy - Main Forum
Thanks all. I am persuaded to get a decent tool for the job. Most seem to recommend using an anti-seize compound when installing the new sensor. Are they all the same? ie I can just walk into a local auto parts store and pick up whatever is pegged? It seems preferable to apply the compound directly to the sensor, not the female threads, to avoid contamination upon inserting the sensor. Theby catalogguy - Main Forum
I am planning to tackle this project, but have been reading about specialized tools for O2 sensors; they have a cut-out I think for the wire to stay out of the way of the socket driver. The 101 Projects book says access is easy on a Boxster, and the tool needed is a 22mm wrench (and other cars would need the special deep socket with the slit on the side). CAN I JUST USE A SIMPLE 22MM WRENCHby catalogguy - Main Forum
Thanks for the insight. The reason I ask is I wonder whether I can purchase the newer MAF instead of the old model and not have to reflash since my ECU was replaced a few years ago. I am guessing the answer is no. I'll call the dealer and see what the damage would be to do the flash, but I have yet to find any info on why the newer MAF is preferable over the old style.by catalogguy - Main Forum
Hopefully this question will be moot as I just attempted cleaning my MAF with the CRC cleaner. However, if I need to change the MAF, I can choose from 2 versions. The 2000 986S came with an original e-gas version of the MAF, and that's what's in my car now (Porsche part # 996.606.124.00 & Bosch part # 0-280-218-009). Porsche updated the MAF twice since the original version. In order tby catalogguy - Main Forum

So after getting my brakes done today (and the headlight plug adjusted), I have a couple new issues to tackle. First is I am told that a couple of my codes (I've had codes for over a decade) is from a failing mass airflow sensor. I recall years back when we first started having problems with these things. I think I have an extra one in a box somewhere, although I cannot recall whether if it isby catalogguy - Main Forum
So today I was in the shop for a brake job, and got some help. It seems the plastic clip that holds the plug in the plastic upright holder had popped out of position, and one side was no longer seated in the slot. The tech was able to remove the clip and reassemble it. Voila.by catalogguy - Main Forum
Thank you for the helpful information. I have carefully compared the placement and connections on the non-functioning driver's side to the perfectly functioning passenger side. I think I am clipping on the second harness sufficiently. The assembly seems to fit properly within the fender. But the other wire plug that is fixed in place on a plastic support is a bit more wiggly than the clip onby catalogguy - Main Forum
I have a 2000 986S with factory installed Litronics. After replacing a dead parking lamp bulb, all the bulbs in that assembly are non-functional (parking, blinker, high beam, low beam) Here's what I did. 1. Check manual for bulb detail and replacement procedure. Seems easy enough. 2. Acquired bulb from Pelican. 3a. Opened front trunk, unscrewed carpet bolt and pulled carpeting away, pulled outby catalogguy - Main Forum
CURRENT SITUATION: 2000 Boxster S with euro spec RoW M030 suspension. Front passenger side strut leaking badly. Sacramento alignment shop Linville Bros had the car up on the yesterday and recommends I replace both front struts since one is leaking. They quoted me $260 to replace the struts, $240 to replace the strut assemblies. This is for labor. They sent me out on my own to source the parts.by catalogguy - Main Forum
So I can get the bumper cover as low as about $400, but paint costs an additional $500. Hoping to bump into a black one!by catalogguy - Main Forum
Good to know, thank you!by catalogguy - Main Forum
Thanks for the info! DFW, you have bought from them? I contacted them about info (they list info for the 2001 S and omit 2000, but I expect it's the same) and asked for a pic of the unit installed on car. Hard to tell the styling differences from my OEM from the pics in the auction.by catalogguy - Main Forum
Hi All, Boy this place sure looks different! I even had to recreate my user account. Pedro, sounds like you're the man we thank for keeping the "Boxster Board" in business - thanks!! Recently, while backing out of a parking space, the front nose came completely off the car. The parking block was not unusually large, nor was I deeply planted on it, so I am guessing the mounts had just becomeby catalogguy - Main Forum
