Don't know how familiar people here are with this shifter, but I got one a couple weeks ago and I really like it. Here are a couple links that give some background, where my comments are posted. Just thought there might be some interested parties. Not the cheapest solution, but I found it worth the investment.by gedwin - Main Forum
I am hoping someone can comment on this. I had installed the B&M in my 986. The stock throws were very long, and the B&M was terrific. I was thinking of installing one in my 987.2. My understanding is that the B&M/Porsche short shifter reduces throw on a 986/987.1 by 35%, but only reduces throws in the 987.2 by 20%. I find the stock shifter in the 987.2 to be much better than the stoby gedwin - Main Forum
Jeff, I have a 2010 S(DFI) with 16000 miles. Mine burned about 2 quarts/5000 until about 10000 miles. Now it burns none. I drive 60 miles every day, so there is no buildup of other fluids in the oil, because it would burn off daily. Give it the 15000 miles before you worry.by gedwin - Main Forum
Leeper, Did you look in the rear wheel wells to see if there is any remnants of melted tire rubber? Maybe someone was showing off by doing smoky burnouts. Could explain the redlines and clutch damage.by gedwin - Main Forum
What I mean't by "requires" is that you will not get any reading unless those conditions are met.by gedwin - Main Forum
Not knowing the MY discussed here, just wanted to say that the 987.2 requires the engine be fully warmed and idling to check the oil. It will not give a reading if the car is off or not warmed sufficiently. And if you just came down off of any higher RPM, it may require several minutes to get a reading. I have also gotten readings within 5 seconds under certain conditions.by gedwin - Main Forum
It took me about 2 hours to replace one on my 2001. It was replaced before complete failure, so no cleaning was required. But I did pull the intake open for inspection, and that added maybe an hour on top of the 2 hours for replacement.by gedwin - Main Forum
I don't have a daily need for GPS, but I use the iPhone 4S with the TomTom GPS mount (got it on sale cheap) and the TomTom map app when I need it. Works as good as the stand alone Garmin I tested out first. Screen size not a problem for me, and map updates are free. Includes turn by turn, everything a stand alone does. Live traffic costs extra and uses your data plan, but maps are installed so noby gedwin - Main Forum
With extensive research, I found no way to get contacts from the iphone into my CDR-30. However, if you have a 4S, you can use SIRI through the unit, eliminating the need to enter contacts.by gedwin - Main Forum
I have the TomTom dock, which not only holds it, but provides power (since the GPS kills the battery quickly), and enhances the GPS. Picked it up as a closeout for like $35.by gedwin - Main Forum
I used the Conti DWS 16's last winter with great results in NJ on my 2001. Actually selling them with the 16" wheels because they won't fit the new Boxster. I guess I will learn this year how well 18's do in snow...by gedwin - Main Forum
I found that the key to keeping the leather "healthy" is lots of proper conditioner. It needs the oils to repel the water and sun damage. I use Zymol, which you can find at Pepboys now. You want to massage it in, and the sun to warm it and help it soak in. I use it once a month, but you will have to apply a lot to bring it back. I had 100k miles on my car, and all the leather was in great shape,by gedwin - Main Forum
Just had mine done about a month ago on my 2001 base. Cost was about the same as your quote. I got 127,000 out of mine, so you did really good! I guess 127 ain't bad either.by gedwin - Main Forum
By feel I'm guessing it's the brakes.by gedwin - Main Forum
That is correct.by gedwin - Main Forum
Back in the day, as my cars aged, I had to rebuild many a wheel cylinders and calipers because of water damage inside the brake system. Since I started flushing the brake fluid on all my cars, I have never had a hydraulic brake part failure again. Started doing it yearly on all my cars, regardless of age or miles, in 1988, so it has been a long time. With the Box, I went with the manual recommenby gedwin - Main Forum
Here is my observations regarding the PDK: First, I expected to not like the buttons, and would opt to convert to paddles. I have been driving stick only my whole life, but believe manual trans only remained because it was the best performance choice available, and I am accepting of changes in life if they are better solutions. I also am aware of some peoples complaints that they feel "disconnecby gedwin - Main Forum
Had my share of (typical Boxster) parts failures, but otherwise it has been a dependable daily driver since 2004. A 2001 base purchased with 17,000 miles. Still solid (even with NJ roads) and runs strong. That said, I had the opportunity to spend 2 days with a 2011 base with PDK. I've been thinking. Lots of thinking...by gedwin - Main Forum
April...by gedwin - Main Forum
Installed the resistor Friday night. Problem solved. $106 list at dealer, got $20 off. Had no time to wait for cheaper alternative since it's a daily driver. Problem solved. Thanks all!by gedwin - Main Forum
Ok, first, thank you for the links. Most helpful! I put my finger on the relay and turned on the AC, and it clicked. Clicked on turnoff (obviously) also. Jumped the relays as instructed, turned on the AC. Compressor kicked on and the fan in question (and the other) kicked on high speed. Motor temp was "cold". Removed jumper, retested, no left fan. I guess I will be ordering a resistor. Thankby gedwin - Main Forum
Ok, I just tested by turning the a/c to full cold. The compressor kicked on, and the passenger side fan was running. Nothing from the drivers side fan. Does that ensure I am looking at a fan problem and not a resister problem? Thanks for the help!by gedwin - Main Forum
I have a base 2001 boxster, and I know that the cooling fans have 2 speeds, but I believe that they always turn on together. Is this true? I noticed today that one was running, but the other did not appear to be. I received no warning light. If one fan fails, would I be sure to get a code light? Thanks!by gedwin - Main Forum
Bobtesa, Maybe you can answer a question that I've been trying to get an answer to. I understand that the Sport-chrono plus is supposed to offer the most aggresive shifts, but is that only in one of the auto modes? I want to know, if one intends to only use the manual mode for aggresive driving, does the Sport-chrono plus have any affect on the shift performance under manual mode? If not, that iby gedwin - Main Forum
I have a base boxster which had the anodized black coating. I don't like other colors, and I don't think gloss black will look good on a black car. The labels will look shiny, so maybe the answer is a flat hi-temp clear coat over gloss black (and labeled) calipers? Is there a hi-temp flat clear coat available anywhere? I would re-anodize, but just too expensive and time consuming, since the carby gedwin - Main Forum
Grant, Can you tell me what plugs are needed? I zip tied mine out of the way because it is so easy to inspect the brakes through the wheels, I really don't need/want them. I would like to remove them.by gedwin - Main Forum
