I drove my track car to Trade Joe's last night, and returned to my house the slightly long way. Parked, went in, did a few chores, and took the garbage out. As i opened the door I heard a voice "Grant!". A moment later "Its Gary". One of the NNJR-PCA members, sometimes AXer and Track guy, and neighbor (about 1/2+ mile away) had been out for an evening walk. He heard a "great sounding flat sby grant - Main Forum

Same block. rebuilt. Nickies 3.2--> 3.6 w/matched JE pistons higher rpm valve springs re-done everything, many updated to latest spec (coils, chain tensioners, O2 sensors, ....) carillo rods racing bearings headers new pretty much everything that bolts on and is hard to reach (starter, water pump, Aos, expansion tank, blah, blah) rebuilt gearbox with LSD deep sump So, basically its a completby grant - Main Forum
Well, i got the car back, temporarily, to put more miles on. PS leak was a worn-out reservoir, that would no longer seal at pump. fixed. Ordered a new center radiator (leak, old one was also just dead, fins bent/missing) and it will go in tomorrow? But the leak is small enough that I spent the weekend breaking it in. Mileage now stands at 430, and all of them are true break-in miles, constantlby grant - Main Forum
1. bad seal (old plastic..) between power steering reservoir and pump. New reservoir seems to have fixed. time will tell. 2. broken plastic plug/stopcock in (plastic part of) center radiator. Since radiator was also old and fins damaged, and removal would have been time consuming and dicey (old, brittle plastic), a new one was ordered (surprisingly cheaply). Gby grant - Main Forum
I just put new tires on my 2002 Audi S6 avant. yes, its a wagon, but it's a great driving car - coilovers, corner weighted, -2 deg camber all around, blah, blah. yes, big and fat too. Anyway, i just put Michelin Supersports - 245/45-17 (OEM is 255/40-17, long story, not ideal sizing for the rims or load). Bottom line - terrific tire. Smooth, good feel, quiet, and so far it seems to stick reallyby grant - Main Forum

if you use up the fuel within a month or so, it shoudl be fairly good. What i might look for is so called "pure" gas, with no ethanol, to minimize the water problems caused by ETOH. I would also change my oil every year (silly as it sounds) since you are actually making a fine mix of oil water and acid - far worse than those who get it really hot regularly. I'd also make sure i used an oil withby grant - Main Forum
Let's start with the good news. I went to my neighbor's shop for a formal NJ state inspection. A miracle occurred: it passed immediately. Then the car gods got me back. It began pissing power steering fluid from somewhere we cant find int he rear (probably hose connections to pump), and , while figuring that out, it began peeing red (coolant) on the floor from the front, near the LF radiator.by grant - Main Forum
I'll work backwards: 500 miles on the break-in specific oil that is in it (Driven/Gibbs, Dino, high ZDDP, break-in oil, specific from LNE). Break in is mostly rolling onto the gas 2500 --> 4500 and engine breaking back, with of course a few more enthusiastic starts. No WOT yet. Nothing above 5k yet. Smell is burned fuel, not raw. Some of it may be that i found a power steering leak. Therby grant - Main Forum

So, long story short, i put a lot of work and money (parts, machining) in to a new 3.6 motor for my street-legal track car. Yesterday and today i began the critical task of breaking it in... properly i hope. Basic principles: vary the speed, gradually increase both load and rpms, and never lug or jerk (jerk = 2nd derivative of velocity, and is generally bad). So basically, when I have a new ,by grant - Main Forum
Maybe if i add 237 + 103 (Audi S6) and 63 (986 base) I can take Marc. :-) I'll argue that track miles, like dog years, count for 7. That puts Pedro at something like 1.4M, and both my boxsters at "big" Gby grant - Main Forum
Displacement + 13%, but the intake is not similarly improved (yet). Freer flowing exhaust headers (modest gain). Oldest of the DMEs holds it back. I mostly built it to be durable. The race parts --especially bearings and nikisil should help it last. I can also add tweaks such as a chip/tune at a later date. Truth is, my motor was so dead that even stock would probably be a startling improvemby grant - Main Forum
Well, it **was** Sunday. At the risk of boring you with my “baby pictures”, I thought this might be interesting. Lake Underwood(Jr.) showed up at the Sunday Autocross with a storied, incredibly valuable race car to show around. Not only that, he tossed me the keys and nearly made me take it out — in anger -- around the course. Pinch me. Lake drove this car to several SCCA national titby grant - Main Forum
The areas of stated cooperation are basic technologies that don't really impact car architecture or differentiation. Electrification, autonomous operation and digitization (not entirely what they mean, but likely intelligent control of car, multiplexing, etc) are basics of the future, much like steel , combustion research (polled at labs), etc - which are all either pooled or outsourced to supplby grant - Main Forum

.. some other event. before i said too much I'd look at long term trends. Car buying is very seasonal - down in winter, down as new models are announced but not available, etc. I dont doubt that many long for the old flat-6, but in objective terms the new cars are just ..... better, and everything i see of the buying demographics is that most people who buy are not hard-core drivers, they are buby grant - Main Forum
But its many things. Now, to the oil - a long lasting IMS is a red herring re: ZDDP. OPil has two major ( actually 3, btu it gets arcane) lubrication modes: 1. hydrodynamic, in whcih the parts are "floated" without contact 2. barrier, in which they rub ZDDP works only when hydrodynamic lubrication fails and parts rub. The classic case is an old style lifter, but today's cams qualify, and certby grant - Main Forum
A colleague of a club member spoke at NNJR's monthly meeting. So, we got one of the lead researchers from their labs, which happen to be close by in Clinton NJ.
