Synthetic oils can cause seal leaks due to their inherently lower surface tension and surface wetting properties. Combine the lower surface tension with often ridiculously low oil viscosities (0W-anything) and you have a very mobile fluid that will find nearly any leak point........by JFP in PA - Main Forum
But both the OEM and aftermarket pumps with plastic impeller assemblies tend to fail by shedding vanes, leaving the impeller disc pretty much intact. As the result, the pump bearing does not die in the process. In the process of shedding the vanes, bits of plastic end up in small cooling passages in the heads, and perhaps more importantly, the oil cooler. If they sufficiently block the passageby JFP in PA - Main Forum
I'd replace the oil cooler, the radiators and the heater core; it is often difficult, if not impossible to get all the debris out, and if some breaks loose in the future, well...................by JFP in PA - Main Forum
If your engine had already “detonated”, and was in the process of stopping when shrapnel got to the pump vanes, you wouldn’t be searching for the vanes, they would still be near the pump, along with the chunk(s) of metal shrapnel that tore them loose (which also would not have have had time to been reduced to small bits and dispersed). If the vane debris totally disintegrated and made it aby JFP in PA - Main Forum
P0410 indicates that the air pump is not triggering, P1411 indicates it does not work. Typical causes are the failure of the system change over valve, plugged air lines, or vacuum sysem leaks. This will be a kind of "Easter Egg Hunt" diagnostic as you need to start checking the individual system components.by JFP in PA - Main Forum
When a battery sits on a conventional charger for a while, it tends to sliightly over charge and get warm. Either the over charge or the fact that the battery is warm will change its voltage output slightly upwards. Charged and at ambient temps, it should be around 12.5-13V. You should also know that batteries hate"deep discharging", and that they often begin to sprial downwards after it happeby JFP in PA - Main Forum
Actually, I'd go the other way around; your water pump may have came apart (on the track, if memory serves), and the bits blocked some of the water passages to your head and more importantly, the oil cooler area, and that is probably what started the fatal chain of events leading to your rod failure. Not that uncommon, this is why Jake is suggesting changing out the OEM water pump every three yeby JFP in PA - Main Forum

The 935/78 "Moby Dick": The powerplant, a twin turbocharged boxer six engine, with an air cooled block and water cooled heads displaced 2.85 total litres, about half a litre less than a contemporary 911 engine. The motor had originally been developed for the "Moby Dick" race car, then was redeveloped slightly for the short-lived Porsche Indy Car and several other projects before being "tweakedby JFP in PA - Main Forum
Call Sunset Porsche, order the following: 997-652-101-00-A05 "Cigar Lighter" $12.64 996-652-102-10 "Lighter Insert" $6.13 For $18.77, youhave verything you need to change out the European spec unit for one that will eliminate the need for sleeves, bent prongs or jamming a screwdriver into the socket..................takes about 5 min. to do.by JFP in PA - Main Forum
Some of the '05 cars came from the factory with the "final revision" IMS bearing whose size prevents replacement without a full engine tear down. And, to my knowledge, the only way to know is to pull the flywheel and look. That could limit your ability to take preventative steps, if you are so inclined................. When the actuators fail, they both rarely go at the same time. Often, they crap out due to debris blocking the oil passages, but as they are not designed to be serviced, replacing them is the best option. Also have your wrench look at the two small chain tensioning paddles between the cams, they are very cheap and usually beat to Hell, often the source of the debris that plugs up the actuator.by JFP in PA - Main Forum

But a car that has not been serviced in nearly 4 years is a giant red caution flag. In that amount of time, the brake fluid alone should have been changed twice, much less the oil and filters……………..by JFP in PA - Main Forum

The o-rings are usually not the issue; sealants used on some engines (cam covers, etc.) were green in color after prolonged exposure to hot oil; some were an amber/brown. Flakes of these sealants come off the "squeeze out” and end up in the oil. Their presence is both harmless and meaningless. Black bits can be from the IMS, but also the chain tensioner paddle wear pads. The presence of theby JFP in PA - Main Forum
Besides the ones you pointed out, there are also similar seals on the oil cooler and a couple other locations. But, at least in my experience, because of how and where they are located, these rarely come loose and show up in the oil without some major mechanical disaster befalling the engine first; I've never seen them in the oil or pan on an engine still capable of running..................by JFP in PA - Main Forum

Interstate Battery in Tennessee has be the primary supplier for US delivered Porsche “OEM” batteries for a long time now. They also similarly supply Nissan, Honda and others with “private label” batteries as well. In fact, the only Nissan (or Infinity) battery that is not from Interstate in the US is the one in the new Leaf Hybrid; and that is a model 34 Optima that Nissan dealers pay $by JFP in PA - Main Forum
