police traffic patrols, police staffed radar traps, speed cameras, even cameras hooked together that snap a pic of your car's license plate and match the number from the two pics and calculate your vehicle's speed over a distance. QuoteSeaNile Seems that the car was well cared for and had all service at the local (where initially bought) Porsche dealer. All things done according to schedule, oil changes, services, brake flush, etc. So if I go back to the beginning from when I have been watching, the car was listed for $28,950 and they could come down to $28450 but that was absolutely the lowest price. some diagnostics that it was the actuator. The PST2 diagnostics computer has a drive link (not sure how it came by this name) that allows the tech to control this actuator (and its twin over under the other head's camshaft cover) and he cycled it and could tell from the sensors/derived data (short term fuel trims and other sensors) the actuator was not working at all. had not yet received the parts. So work has not started on the car yet. If the parts arrive today (if they arrive they should arrive by 1:30pm IIRC), the car might be done by Friday before the dealer closes (early) but it might not. If not Friday then Monday. (And when the Boxster is back in my hands the Turbo goes in for a new clutch power assist accumulator.) Anyhow, I asked to have the old pby MarcW - Main Forum

Just about every place, surface that the intake air comes in contact with and then every surface the exhaust gases contact will have an oily film (or worse). to be heavily sooted up and the other clean. How did a Chevy dealer end up with car? Also, given how the GM and GMC employees treated my 06 GTO (hotrodding around town or the dealer's back lot in it) I wonder how have they been treating a Porsche in their possession. Be sure to among the many things you check you get a DME overrev readout and see what the numbers are for the various ranges. Sby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotemikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC Dealer may collect from the plowing contractor. So dealer may not be taking the total hit. And maybe you could insist as part of the deal on a new hood and a complete front end respray in a way that doesn't show on the CarFax. Bad VarioCam actuator is the diagnosis. Camshaft cover comes off tomorrow and actuator guides will be evaluated then as well. If guides ok cost to repair is under $1600. (Roughly the new actuator lists for $400 the rest is labor, etc.) If the guides on side with bad actuator are worn enough to warrant replacing then guides on the other side will be replaced as well. On one hand, these lot accidents happen all the time (well often enough). Cost of doing business. If the snow plow a contractor then the contractor's insurance company is on the hook. Trouble can arise if the snow plow contractor's insurance company is unaware of what it costs to fix even 'minor' body damage to a Porsche or is aware but unwilling to foot the bill for a proper repair. QuoteSeaNile Received a call from the dealer with the 02 S this am, the good news is they now have the complete service records of the car and it seems to be very well cared for. I still need to actually see the records and go over them,.. Now the bad news....while clearing out the lot the snowplow hit the car and the hood is pretty banged up. of a chassis dyno. EVO mag (UK published car mag) did a gas (petrol) test a few years ago and using a VW GTI (with a 1.8l turbo-charged engine) as a test vehicle found differences of up to 40ftlbs of torque between the best and worst gasolines. I can't remember the HP differences. Professional driver on a track noticed big differences in the way the engine felt. Where the high octane really coby MarcW - Main Forum
I started the Boxster's engine. The rough idle symptom not present. No engine noises. I drove the car home -- nearly 30 miles -- with no problems. Short (1.5 miles) drive this AM and dropped the car off at the dealer. Idle a bit rough but nothing like it was yesterday as I pulled into office parking lot. On way to the dealer this AM the check engine light came on just a few blocks before I reacby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteMikenOH Apparently, Fred Baker Porsche in OH is going to be acquired by the Penske group. Freddy Baker has been in the business for roughly 30+ years and is well known in the racing community. right after I read it using the code reader. I looked it up and there's no test steps to eliminate various sensors, connectors, or wiring, etc. Looks to be a night and day, black and white situation. Bad something whatever it is and whatever it is is a critical component/system to be sure. Engine exhibited a bit of knocking this AM upon cold start. The knocking lasted close to 20 seconds. the engine developed an odd idle condition. One moment the engine idling at normal idle speed then it drops to around 500 rpms (by the tach dial/needle) then almost no sooner does it reach 500 that it climbs again to the normal idle rpm and this cycling repeats over and over again, at least for the few minutes I let the engine idle. Gave the engine some throttle and it ran and sounded ok. No oby MarcW - Main Forum
Quoteboxtaboy I was gonna ask this on the car specific forum for my particular vehicle (I'm talking about my Infiniti FX35 daily commuter), but figured they'd give me an answer of if you wanna protect your baby, use the best gas kinda answer, so here goes- after running 50+ miles per day roundtrip to work each day for over a month, I recently discovered that although the manufacturer "recommends"by MarcW - Main Forum
next car is before you make up your mind not after. I've never driven a 350Z 370Z, never even been in one. While I don't dislike the car it really does nothing for me and I don't follow the car to really stay up on it in case I want to buy one. However, I have read a few reviews and long term test reports. The car comes in for high praise in some areas. IIRC one complaint was the exhaust noiseby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteSeaNile Dealer with the 02 S called me today and let me know that they have made contact with the previous owner who will be dropping off all of the service records soon. what the techs at the shop you took the car too said I believe you have a pretty good shop to take the car to. I mean there are times when a $3K repair is justified. But one certainly wants enough info and discussion from the tech recommending this action to have sufficient confidence (approx. $3K worth...) this expenditure will have the car back in tip top shape. QuoteSeaNile I called the Porsche dealer who has serviced the car, last service was at 30K miles but did not specifically say it received the 30K service. other owners reporting AOS failures here (and elsewhere) and not AFAIK (and remember) not one AOS failure resulted in either a P0430 or P0420 error code. QuoteSeaNile I just have a feeling no service records will be found, which i am OK with if the price is right. The issue becomes the $18,000 which they say is their bottom line price. I might be OK with 18K if the car is perfect with a detailed history. $18K for a gamble of a 2002 car with no records is insane to me. weak you may not need to replace them right away. new Cayman S the filter was nasty looking -- I've posted pics of this in the past -- with bits of stuff and the oil was laden with fine metal particles. The 1st oil change done at 750 miles and the 2nd one around 600 miles later (a bit concerned and eager to see what was what). At this 2nd oil change I found no debris/trash/etc in the filter, just the tiniest hint of metal sheen in the oil. A neby MarcW - Main Forum
