See how dry and dusty this area is? This is what no fuel leak -- at least from around the fuel pump, the locking collar that holds the fuel pump secure in the tank, the fuel lines that run from the fuel pump to the external fuel lines, etc. -- looks like. Ummm the leaves are there for decoration. Sincerely, MarcW.by MarcW - Main Forum

seal. Too late for you perhaps but when something is believed to be worth tearing into the oil filter for the oil filter housing's oil should be poured into a clean drain pan for examination. What one is looking for is not only big bits but some metal sheen that can -- if the IMS bearing going bad -- that can be from the balls and bearing races. if an automaker's vehicles get a rep for auto-igniting (no pun) and turning a perfectly fine vehicle into a sheet metal flambé that's a pretty bad rep to overcome. So thankfully fuel leaks are rare. But fuel systems and their components of course age and a fuel leak as a car gets older becomes more likely. I was taught that at least with modern cars with the engine off should one *NOT* smell gby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotebabamoto Thanks, Marc. There was the smell of fuel in the cowl area of the front trunk. It worsened considerably during a short drive, and now is reeking up the garage. Nothing obvious, no signs of leakage/moisture of any kind. Question: What is/how do I examine the fuel tank ventilation system? It it under the battery box as well? Engine is running fine, but I'm worried. babamoto the fueby MarcW - Main Forum

that fit in each hoop also secure? Another source of noise from that area can be a loose or improperly installed engine access panel. This panel is located behind the seats and under the layer of carpet. Or the noise can arise from a loose or improperly installed engine cover. There is of course the heavy foam backed carpeted cover but underneath that is the alumium sheet metal (with some moreby MarcW - Main Forum
the concern is I believe first possible IMS bearing failure. Thus the less the engine is run the better off. The engine may be at this stage salvagable. If the noise is coming from the front of the engine the IMS bearing becomes a less likely suspect. One 'trick' to determine if the noise's source is inside or outside the engine is to remove the serpentine belt and start the engine and let it iby MarcW - Main Forum

before the headlights come to full brightness. I could imagine in cold weather with perhaps (a wag) that a weakened battery could extend this out some. My Turbo had a weak battery -- checked ok but after the car sat a few hours Porsche tech retested the battery and found it down on power by around 40% -- but I do not recall any headlight behavior changes. I do remember the slow cranking which caby MarcW - Main Forum

or wouldn't assign the status to it that Porsche's pricing suggested. Which is why Cayman sales numbers are low. It is not a good buy, although it is a good car. (I of course remind you that I bought a new 2008 Cayman but only when there was a heck of a deal on the car, getting the car for around $50K vs. the $62K sticker price. installs into the tank under an access panel that is under the battery box. The fuel pump is (should be) sealed at the tank and then the access panel provides a bit of a back up seal, but of course is not meant to take the place of a properly sealed fuel pump. If not a fuel pump seal leak there is of course several gas lines that run/from the fuel pump. There could even be a leak with the fuelby MarcW - Main Forum
hand turn signal started acting up -- blinking rapidly, then blinking at the normal speed and with one (I can't recall know when end) bulb dark then the next time working just fine -- and a tech when I had the car in for something else graciously checked the car out and found some marginal connections. I've spoken with regarding a 2010/2011 Cayman is...Porsche just ain't making that many. The same has been reported in various indy Porsche car mags too. Porsche (and its dealers) got burned big time on the 2008/2009 Caymans (remember I bought a new '08 in April of 2009 for $12K off sticker and better than book trade in allowance on my 06 GTO) and there were even better deals around) and Porscheby MarcW - Main Forum
Quoteboxsterd Hi, None of those urls are working for me. I tried removing the brackets. Can someone please tell me where I can find more information on this topic? Thanks! Actually the main thing I'm interested in are the disadvantages. Any drawbacks? two ways I know of going about it. One way is to buy/fit an aftermarket top with a glass rear window. but a co-worker heard a hissing sound and reached over and wiggled the oil filler tube cap and could make the hissing noise change. When I leaned over and got my good ear closer I could hear it too then and played with the cap and confirmed there was a vacuum leak around the cap. A new cap -- $13 or so -- fixed the vacuum leak that had me convinced the MAF was bad to the point I had replaced theby MarcW - Main Forum
