Me too ... it's forest green metalic. Here's another snap ...by Indybox - Main Forum
Goodbye Tinypic and hello ImgBB (thanks Guenter) ... so today was 2020 run #1 for my Boxster. She was in hibernation since October 30th ... fired right up ... no issues. Sure was great to finally get out on the road. One of the pictures shows a barn (not mine) in the background ... that's where I keep my small sailing skiff during the winter then that boat joins the Boxster at home and stays in tby Indybox - Main Forum
Another testing 123 ... took this snap back in March when we saw a hint of spring and the end of Porsche hibernation seemed possible. We have a fine spring Saturday on tap here in the Montreal area today ... could be my Boxster run #1 for 2020 today! I am so ready to get out of the house. A grocery run every 2.5 weeks just isn't cutting it!by Indybox - Main Forum
Actually, it's been a few years since I heard any of those "but it's a chic or hair dresser's car" type comments. (For the record, I'm sure that any gal, regardless of profession, can wring the most from any generation of Boxster.) Now I just mostly get a double take when they find out its age! Five speed manual by the way ... too much fun winding out that melodious NA 2.5 now and again!! Did I mby Indybox - Main Forum
I obtained copies of all the service records (4 year lease) from the original dealership in Chicago when I had them do the pre-buy and the production date was on the invoices. As it happened, the mechanic that performed my pre-buy inspection had also done the original new delivery checks four years earlier!by Indybox - Main Forum
Celebrating my Boxster's 20th birthday today (Production date 7 July 1999). Enjoying my 16th year of ownership having logged some 50K miles as the second owner. It's a long way from Uusikaupunki to Montreal via Chicago and Indianapolis but the car is still running strong with just north of 90K total miles and still chopping the original plastic window! Celebration run on the highway today at 100by Indybox - Main Forum
+23C and sunny today so an errand at Home Depot provided the perfect opportunity to take the car cover off, drop the tire pressures from their hibernation values, check all fluid levels and fire it up for a pleasant drive. Smooth start on the first crank and all systems go! Just got back ... life is good!!by Indybox - Main Forum
I've been driving my first Porsche for 15 years now ... she's just part of the family. Our Forest Green 1999 986 will celebrated her 20th birthday on July 7th (Porsche production date). Methinks a new set of PS2's would make a fine birthday present! Here's a photo taken at a Cars and Coffee Octoberfest event last autumn at my dealership. Looking forward to my first drive of 2019 ... still too manby Indybox - Main Forum
Pedro, My '99 will celebrate her 20th next July so I hope that you post some info about your restoration project ... it might give me some ideas for future projects. Johnby Indybox - Main Forum
Only 112 days until spring and Pedro's Board is going to help get me there! Thanks Pedro!by Indybox - Main Forum
Added a new subject line for future reference and another photo from last summer (Saint-Placide church on the north shore of the Ottawa river). Only 116 days until spring ... hold fast!by Indybox - Main Forum
Yes ... I'll check it again next year to see if there's any change. The picture of the fragments looks worse than it might seem because of the photo magnification ... these are really small bits and not so many as to indicate extensive brake-up of the pad runner area.by Indybox - Main Forum
So ... just to follow up on the recently installed magnetic oil drain plug and oil filter inspections at the year end service last month ... The oil filter had the usual very small catchment of chewed up plastic bits and no metal as far as I could see. A search for "plastic bits in the oil filter" turned up this Rennlist thread that describes the source. Looks like I have both flavours (brown anby Indybox - Main Forum
... all good info ... thanks very much! PS: Friday scan day snap ... one day late. (My 986 in a 944 sandwich on a 964 fender at a recent Cars and Coffee event)by Indybox - Main Forum
Thanks Marc ... actually, I hadn't looked at the exterior of the pump before it was removed ... just thought it was time (19 years). My main concern was age related ... possibility of small bits of the impeller coming adrift and circulating in the cooling passages.by Indybox - Main Forum
Hi Pedro, The manual transmission oil was indeed replaced. Cheers, John PS: Thanks for providing this excellent forum for all things Boxster!by Indybox - Main Forum
My 1999 Boxster celebrated her 19th birthday this past July, same month that we did the 90K mile service. Despite MarcW's sage advice to leave well enough alone, I decided to have the water pump and thermostat replaced. Some evidence of minor leakage at the shaft seal but otherwise, the pump was OK. Impeller not missing any bits and the shaft bearings tight. Thermostat looked OK too. Apart fromby Indybox - Main Forum

Second batch of Spyder spy shots. Why don't these photographers report on the exhaust sound while they're at it ... will it be another phlatulent four or magic six?by Indybox - Main Forum
Thanks for the memories ... what an adventure! Cheers, Johnby Indybox - Main Forum
Marc, I had a feeling this day would come. Thank you very much for all the thoughtful and detailed submissions that you've posted over the years. You always found time to comment on my issues and the info I've gleamed from your other posts would fill a shop manual! Good luck with the new rides. I have a feeling though that it won't be too long before you find yourself back in a Porsche. As the owby Indybox - Main Forum
Many thanks for the useful comments. I don't track my car and just about every time it goes out for a run, the engine winds up being thoroughly heat soaked. I'll try to have the dealer let me have a look at the oil from the filter housing this time next year. Where can I get an oil analysis done up here in Quebec? PS: Re hibernation ... I don't start my engine during the winter. The RMS seal waby Indybox - Main Forum
Fortunately, I've never seen any shiny fine particles in the filter since installing the LN IMS bearing so hopefully, all is well with the races. The fact that the hard black fragments are not bright/shiny and don't have any ground surfaces hopefully means the source is not a bearing.by Indybox - Main Forum
Alas, time for my '99 986 to go into hibernation ... for 6 months no less. Had the oil changed out and cut up the oil filter to read the tea leaves. Catchment is pretty much the same as last several years ... nothing out of the ordinary. A few black metal fragments and some non-metallic bits ... likely variocam chain pad wear products. The car will reach the 90K mile service interval next springby Indybox - Main Forum
I think replacing the ignition switches gets you qualified for a job at Cirque du Soleil. I know 'cause I managed to replace it maybe 10 years ago with some on-line help from Pedro ... thanks. Been a fan of Pete's / Pedro's Boards since acquiring my '99 in '04. Couldn't imagine these last 14 years of P986 Permagrin without the Boxster board community.by Indybox - Main Forum
Have a thought for the folks in eastern Ontario and southern Quebec along the Ottawa and St. Lawrence rivers. "100 year" floods due to double the usual rainfall this spring along with a heavy snow melt. Waters are receding but some serious damage for many folks. The armed forces were called out to help but, alas, this is a sign of things to come with climate change. Some of my favourite roads weby Indybox - Main Forum
