Thanks Pedro. It really irks me when stuff like this goes bad on these cars. Never had an instrument problem on any car I've owned other than burned light bulbs. But I've never replaced a lot of things on other cars like I've replaced on this Boxster. Research shows cluster problems on 986/996s are not uncommon. As far as the analog gauge, yes it works but I can hardly read it and do not want toby patrick - Main Forum

LA Dismantlers. They specialize in Porsches. They have a Tiptronic transmission listed. They say it is for an S but I think the transmission was common for the Carrera, Boxster and Boxster S. Their manual transmissions were $1500 or less and they appear to be tested. You may be able to get back on the road for less than you thought. National Geographic is doing a special on LA Dismantlers on Mayby patrick - Main Forum
Yesterday after I started driving my 1997 Boxster I lost the digital MPH display in the tachometer gauge. It went black. Later, after I was driving for several minutes it came back on. I shut the car off and when I started it up it went dark again and then later came back on. I ran several errands and it stayed on after starting. Maybe a wire or loose connection. A light on its way out? Anyone hby patrick - Main Forum
The early Boxsters were about +5mph high. A software update from the dealer changed that to about +3mph. I got the software update and mine is now about +2-3mph high versus GPS and electronic radar signs. If you don't have the on board computer that dealer software update will also permit you to turn on the temperature display as all early Boxsters had the front temp prob installed. Mine was turnby patrick - Main Forum
That turned out to be a good decision. Lamborghini does not support these classic cars and parts are impossible to find. I saw a beautiful red one in my friend's shop. It had been sitting there for months as my friend scoured the world for clutch parts. After about 50 hours of research he found some partial parts in Portugal. He gave up and finally told the owner to come pick it up. You almost neby patrick - Main Forum
I personally feel that the Porsche recommended oil change interval for the Tip tranny is way too long. I did my first change at about 27,000 miles when I felt some slight slippage in the shifting. A fluid change corrected this and made the transmission feel much smoother. If you plan to keep your car a long time and/or put mileage on it I would change the Tip fluid and filter in the tranny everyby patrick - Main Forum
Caution is right. The 458 has 562hp and is as fast around the Ferrari test track as an Enzo..The cost is about $250,000 and there is a several year waiting list for them. Many less cautious owners have crashed their Ferraris on the track. There is a saying that every time someone totals an Enzo the price goes up. These 458s will be great used cars in about eight years.by patrick - Main Forum
I did not know you switched oil again Pedro. You use to state in your warm climate that you used a 10 or 15 something 40 or 50. Is 0W/50W also suitable for street cars? Seems like you are going for the highest phosphorous/zinc content.by patrick - Main Forum
Bummer. I have a Tip and though Tip failures seem to be rare sorry yours gave up on you. This is a tough one since you have so much money already tied up in past repairs. Based on what some others have been able to get out of their motors, you may have 50-150K miles left. If I where in your position and really loved my car and felt that everything else was in pretty good condition I would rebuildby patrick - Main Forum
Used a Watts Parostatik Disc Preener before playing vinyl on my Phillips 212 Electronic turntable with Audio Technica nude shibata stylus (needed for Quad). Not nearly as fancy as some of you guys rigs but got the job done nicely. Still have it and it works. I'm the original owner and still have it-54,000 miles. Ordered January 1997 at LA Auto Show delivered July 1997. Never had a test drive or saw one in a show room. Ordered options from a three ring binder on faith from the salesman. Built of course in Stuttgart (all 97s were) AS/BR/BL the Boxster brochure car. Been on PPBB since July 1997by patrick - Main Forum
The battery was located near the injectors and battery acid would deteriorate the fuel injector lines and gas would spray all over the motor and exhaust system causing fires. I lost several fuel injectors this way but was lucky the fuel did not ignite and cause a fire in the motor compartment.by patrick - Main Forum
Amazing how fast future oil prices immediately get passed on at the pump before the oil is even shipped or refined. Funny how decreases in oil prices don't work the same way at the pump. Of course the oil companies will be two stepping about yet another historic quarter of multi billion dollar record profits when 1QR results get released in April. I left a credit card in Italy at an Autostrada restaurant stop on a platter at the register. The cashier does not hand it back to you like in the US. I called my credit card company to cancel the old card and issue a new one. No problem they said. We can have a new one to you in Europe from Omaha in about two weeks. That did not help me with the upcoming hotels, restaurants and car rentals. Luckiby patrick - Main Forum
I just went to Google and started looking up sites "car rental in Spain". There are some in Europe that you may not be familiar with in the US. Also check the travel sites like Orbitz and Expedia. I used SIXT. They were fine, about $20 a day. Get the best car and deal you can and check drop off locations if you plan to drop at another spot from original rental. Make sure the car is big enough toby patrick - Main Forum
Removed the battery from the car. It is about three years old and had it tested. It checked out OK and we left in on the charger for about 20 minutes. Put it back in and my Temp gauge display returned and the car runs smoother than before. I have a Tip so the computer and probably other systems reset themselves. The spoiler also appears to be behaving and staying put . I can only guess I let theby patrick - Main Forum
My 97 did a strange thing today. Its been sitting a while and the battery was really weak and barely turned the motor over. When it did start, the spoiler extended and the temp gauge that I had the dealer turn on read mph - - - instead of temp. What is going on?by patrick - Main Forum
I recently had the capacitors replaced out and the guns aligned and the mirror cleaned. Looks great and the picture is still amazing. Yeah it is a behemoth two part monster and weighs 350 lbs but I have it tucked around a nice entertainment center so you only see the screen and not the depth. Parts are becoming scare and I thought I would have to bite the bullet on the last problem but Mitsu stiby patrick - Main Forum
doing 70 mph on the NJ Turnpike going under a bridge to find my car doing 360s on the way out. Hit some black ice from water that dripped and froze from the bridge overhead. Didn't even see it. Luckily I was in the center lane and no one was around me. I could not do anything but count the number of revolutions as I slowly spun at 60+mph and wondered when it would stop and what I would crash intoby patrick - Main Forum
