Different tests, different results.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Heat on wafting over me. Both cars I did it in had no heated seats. (914 and Alfa). In the Boxsters, the worry was always the top cracking pre-2003. If I had a glass window, I would have.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

this "how much is enough" question came from a current Prius station wagon owner. In 25k miles I haven't found a situation where I wanted more torque. My wife has a V-6 Acura now and I find it overly powered and too sensitive for my pedal foot to the point that I much prefer the lower powered car with slower response. I think one of the reasons I like the under-powered vehicle is it forcesby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Where are you going to use all this power but the track? Sure you can drive it as a daily but would the relatively available ~150HP Miata be just as much fun on a beautiful fall day at 1/4 the price? I never found the fun factor to be more on the 3.2 than the 2.5 986 and my 85HP 914 was more fun than both IMHO. Can you can have too much power?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
one the transmission fell out while driving down the road...I could see bolts bouncing along the road out my rear view window. The other was on its third engine at 110k miles.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
A while back I owned a Porsche Boxster and a Honda CRV and needed to replace an O2 sensor on each car within a month of each other. The Honda part cost almost $100 more than the Bosch part for the Porsche and the installation cost was more than double. So it all depends on the part, location, timing, source, installer, etc. Over 5 years of ownership, I put less money into the Boxster than theby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
to have someone experienced like Pedro that is willing to share that experience for the benefit of us all. So if I haven't said it in a while, thanks.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
and the new engines could be terrific and the rush to buy now could turn out differently than we thought. Or not? Lower price to get the new cars accepted? Then improvements over a 5-8 year cycle with cosmetic changes about 4-5 years in? And bugs in the first model years?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

do not walk to the shop. If you read this multi page multi step guide, you'll see how complex a job. Occasionally 2 people are handy. Chris got a $1-2k labor quotes and Maurice didn't dispute that and he had done several and helped with many more. Most first timers seem to take two days.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Why critical things are based on public protocols and hosted on public networks is beyond me. I know, time to market and, by the time problems are discovered, the folks who made the decision are probably no longer in the company.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I had just moved to NC and was looking forward to meeting Chuck. As the owner of PPBB and a wonderful moderator, he had my respect and admiration as one of the two best moderators I had ever experienced (and I had been online since before there was an internet). And then I went to his funeral. Met his wife and two daughters. Never had the chance to thank him for all the good karma he brought toby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - In Chuck's memory
Lucky enough to have had 5 sportscars. 3 red ones before marriage at 30. 2 AS ones after kids were off the payroll. The three of my youth were stick. No traffic. The last 2 were TIPs. The city had grown by 400% and traffic was a horror. Also, I think I was driving a bit saner, judging from the total lack of traffic tickets. I drove the Boxsters as DDs through twisties, major traffic, stop anby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Even when I'd go to a store where I knew some "unsavory happenings" happened in the parking lot, I'd leave the car unlocked and the top down. I took it anywhere I was going, no restrictions. No obsessions over where I parked either. One of the advantages of being a third owner. It was just a car even if a wonderful one. Only time I locked it was when there was something of value in one of thby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
renntech.org has a FAQ on how to get the radio serial number and a very specific forum posting where you post the serial number and they return you a very probable code. I've also seen it written inside the maintenance record book. Mechanics often do that to make it easy for them to find it the next time.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I have owned 2 Mazda 626s and both were very good cars. Back when I was looking for my 4th roadster after 30+ years without and sampling possible models, I climbed in a Miata. I never drove it, I simply didn't fit, the top of the windshield obscured my vision, etc. I got the impression it was designed for smaller people than my 6' 200lbs. Kinda like the back seat in a Mazda 3. I bought the firby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Most of my site is due to the librarian in me. I'd just grab the topics I thought were best answered by a detailed reference. Too many individual answers lead to burnout and then the info is lost to all but the most diligent searcher. I do give credit to the original author. To be honest, I had forgotten I even had that one. As I said to another contributor, if we all contribute what we can ...by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
My first Boxster contributed one. IIRC it had 29k on it. TIPs do not have a bad reputation. Yes TIPs are more work and thus $$ to replace than the 5-speed.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

that after an unusually low MPG tank the next tank registers unusually high. This is a consistent pattern over 70 tanks. I attribute this to inconsistent fuel shut off at the pump. I totally ignore any readout from the OBC. And I don't react at all when I get inconsistent readings since I know over time and many tanks, things will even out. I use an app called fuelly.com available online and frby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
