"Our test car has a six-speed manual — the old Getrag unit instead of the PDK-based seven-speed manual used in the new 991-based 911 — and it shifts beautifully, nearly guiding itself from second to third on the upshifts and accurately pulling up every other gear requested. Shift throws are slightly Carrera GT-ish, meaning they’re slightly long fore and aft and pretty tight side to sideby Roger987 - Main Forum
let's just say that on July 15, there will be 79, 215 more reasons for you to bless the day you met Michelle.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Most important - make sure it's mounted downstream of the air filter, so when the blades fall off, they will be ingested by the engine, and fuel economy will never be a worry again...by Roger987 - Main Forum
"what does that tell ya about Porsche owners...always lookin for a cute a*s even if it's an old dude." BTW, according to his story, it seems as though his wish, as expressed in his tasteful license plate, was fulfilled.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Zero fuel consumption while coasting with the transmission in gear. It WILL coast faster (and presumably further) with the transmission in neutral, but does that increased speed/distance offset the fact that fuel, rather than momentum, is being used to keep the engine running? I don't know the answer...by Roger987 - Main Forum

I installed the HID kit Pedro sells. I'm very pleased with it. Much superior low beam illumination than the stock halogen bulbs. Straight-forward clean installation; did it myself. Here's the link:by Roger987 - Main Forum
Thanks for posting the link. Interesting to read that the 991 has a new manual transmission, whereas the 981 uses the older unit. That would explain why I found the throws in the 991 I drove yesterday to be shorter than those in my 987. The last sentence of the review is also vey interesting....by Roger987 - Main Forum
Mike, I think you will like the PDK. Though I have yet to drive one, the ergonomics seem to lend themselves to it. But I think I'd prefer the paddle shifters to the smaller steering wheel button/lever. Here's a link to a discussion on Planet 9 of the latter. Years ago, I was told that wheels with an even number of spokes directly opposite each other (such as the 'Carrera Classic') create a 'sby Roger987 - Main Forum
Black/black, manual transmission, 20" Carrera Classic wheels. (20" is standard, the Carrera Classic is an optional style.) Short, crisp, shifts. Though the shifter action required a bit more effort than my 987, the car is brand new. Interior feels rich, nicely put together. Seats, steering wheel were excellent. Needless to say, lots of power/torque. Car was relatively quiet. Handled like it's oby Roger987 - Main Forum
"What do you call these things?" Well, jacka*ss, those would be called 'roll bars'. Full marks to the Porsche rep for his graceful handling of the idiot's comments/questions. The worse ones, he simply ignored.by Roger987 - Main Forum
With confirmation that the 981's manual shifter is fine, there will be no holding him back.... And yes, I'm jealous.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Some clearly depict depict how the formerly round fenders have been squared off. It's a marked departure for Porsche. I would think that this new fender shape and sculpted sides will be with us for a while. Porsche isn't known to change fundamental design elements on a whim.by Roger987 - Main Forum
When I price a 2013 Boxster non-S, it's $80,430, equipped similarly to my 2005. Taxes would add another $12,500. So, let's say I got $30k for mine (might be a bit optimistic), the new one would cost me $63,000 net, after taxes. My current car PLUS $63,000. Now THERE'S a splash of cold-water reality.by Roger987 - Main Forum
That's Guenter squealing with delight after reading your comments regarding the shifter.by Roger987 - Main Forum

Q. How do you catch a unique rabbit? "Unique up on him." (As in "You 'neak" ) Q. How do you catch a tame rabbit? "Tame way" You'll notice I didn't refer to 'Bunny', as that would only provoke Gary, or Burg, to start posting photos of Playboy Bunnies, or reasonable facsimile, draped over cars. And we certainly don't want any of that!by Roger987 - Main Forum

I have one that works for the Confederation Bridge (the curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water), a toll highway in Nova Scotia, and each of the two bridges between Halifax and Dartmouth. One pass, three separate and distinct administrations, and an account with each.by Roger987 - Main Forum
That makes very good sense. Golf gloves are lightweight, very supple, breathable, and provide excellent grip. For those of us who drive top-down in sub-55 degree temperatures, driving gloves can reduce wind-chill (but, to avoid the 'poser' look, it's best to ensure they're removed before you're out of the car).by Roger987 - Main Forum

Your list of repairs during your Boxster ownership sounds like an average long weekend for my 12 year old BMW 5 series wagon I'm exaggerating, but not wildly. And I STILL love the car.by Roger987 - Main Forum
I've never owned an S, but I'll offer my thoughts. 1. At BRBS last year, Guenter, in his 2006 non-S, often leaded a group through miles and miles of twisties. He was followed by S's, non-S's and some 911's. There was NO ONE nibbling at his rear bumper. His smooth style demonstrated the Boxster's strongest performance advantage - handling. You don't need the S to get that handling. 2. A factoryby Roger987 - Main Forum
