From everything I've read, Porsche's electric steering is fine. Yes, a small bit of road 'texture' feel has been removed, but steering feel remains intact. One effect of the former is to reduce driver fatigue on long drives. The difference is felt most when driving the two types back-to-back. Apparently, one adapts quickly, and happily, to the electric steering. It seems that Porsche got it rightby Roger987 - Main Forum
Hi Bob. I used Tinypic to upload the pics I posted yesterday - they're still here on PBB. I don't know why yours disappeared, but I hope that helps.by Roger987 - Main Forum
That one simple photo has greatly deepened my understanding of the huge popularity, and vast number of enthusiasts, of such timeless engineering and design...by Roger987 - Main Forum
Regrettably I can't lay claim to having anything to do with this photo, other than happening upon it on the 'net' (while researching mat colours, of course). And, the careful observer will notice, but probably not mind, that it's not a Boxster.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Steering wheels, shift knobs, seats, painted consoles, passenger seat 'accessories'.... Anything in, on, attached to, or part of, your Boxster's interior. Two-tone, black/grey full leather.by Roger987 - Main Forum
In some short shift kits I've installed in Bimmers, the shifter itself was actually shorter above the pivot point, and longer below, when compared to the original. But, in this case, I'm referring to the actual 'throw'. In the video (at about 2:22), the driver shifts into a higher gear, and it doesn't appear to be any 'flick of the wrist'.by Roger987 - Main Forum
almost 60 more 'torks', as they say on Top Gear. A 30% increase in torks is substantial. The 981 S's 0-60 time occupies what was supercar territory not long ago.by Roger987 - Main Forum
He missed a downshift into 3rd and caught 1st instead. That's probably why he wants a manual in his 981 - he's hoping that, one day, he'll get it right. (But don't tell him I said that - we don't want him to get a complex).by Roger987 - Main Forum

And I'm sure he wouldn't mind if those same generous donors took his new car for a wee spin through some twisties.by Roger987 - Main Forum
"But there's a sneaking feeling that a 2.7 Boxster with the standard 6-speed manual might be the more intuitive - and immediately easier to fall for - car. I've just got to get my hands on one to let you know." Ummm... Guenter, there's a GT Silver, manual transmission 2.7 981 out there, calling your name. Don't break its heart.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Porsche factory delivery will result in a price reduction. BMW's been offering a factory delivery discount for many years.. Then again, Porsche manages to charge MORE for the fixed-roof Boxster....by Roger987 - Main Forum

You've already come to terms with the purchase price of your dream. Hence, $2950 for that premium paint colour is all that separates you from eternal bliss. Buy it now while "manual gearbox" is still in the features list. And, spring for the body colour mirror stalks. That won't make them entirely better, but their homeliness will stand out less. BTW, can I have dibbs on the chrome exhaust tipsby Roger987 - Main Forum
I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that, with a discount through his employer, the premium was $1800, and the deductible, when he used a garage of his choice, was $75. But, that's just a guess.by Roger987 - Main Forum
The only questions remaining are colour, whether it's a S or non-S, and options. Shall we have a contest to see who can come closest to guessing its specs, with the winner getting to choose between dinner with the G-Man (on this tab) or an opportunity to redline the G-man's 981 (in the first 4 of 6 manually-selected gears) at a future BRBS?by Roger987 - Main Forum
I checked the revision you made to your post. The pre-edit version read "I shudder to think what that will do to the fillings in my teeth. (underlining added). Pretty much a done deal. Just a matter of selecting the colour and writing the cheque. Since arctic silver isn't available, maybe try something entirely new? I'm diggin' that optional new lime-green metallic that Porsche keeps showingby Roger987 - Main Forum
Hmmmm..... Not radically different, in the sense that it's still between the driver and passenger, but check out the shift knob height relative to the bottom of the steering wheel and top of the arm rest. Maybe Porsche DID borrow a page from a classic.... 1975 Alfa Spiderby Roger987 - Main Forum
The 'model' is 5' 10". Yup, that's what it says right there in the fine print. Don't know about you, but that WASN'T my first question... Never mind her left hand is draped across the handlebar grip, her right foot is on the passenger peg, and she's wearing shoes (and a dress) that clearly aren't suited to riding a bike. I appreciate that a photo of a scantily attired woman can attract the attby Roger987 - Main Forum
Looked at the new 991 at the dealer's after hours last weekend, but didn't sit in it. The new console certainly seems to 'present' the shift lever at a significantly higher position than in the 997/987. It's a far cry from resembling an Alfa shifter-sticking-out-of-the-dash, but still.... Is it possible that Porsche has designed the console/shift lever ergonomics with PDK in mind? If you're thinking you might keep your 2000 Boxster for a while, avoid reading /watching anything relating to the introduction of the 981.by Roger987 - Main Forum

I'd consider the Porsche Nav system. Not inexpensive, but so well integrated, and allowing excellent iPod interface. There are, of course contrary views - that a good Garmin will offer excellent nav capabilities and trip programming. But in terms of overall integration, the factory system is superior, and I find not having to disconnect and store a separate GPS every time I leave the car to beby Roger987 - Main Forum
Thanks. Highways here tend to be much smoother than secondary and local roads - that's where the bad bumps are. You're right - tire options for the 17" wheels are limited. Fortunately, the PS2's (approved for the Boxster) are terrific tires. The only criticism I've ever heard is they aren't inexpensive. Although I'd like a slightly wider tire, I've installed H&R spacers (7 mm front and 15by Roger987 - Main Forum
I recall reading that, and I don't doubt it. As between 17" wheels and 18" wheels, I prefer the look of 18's. At some point, large diameter wheels look plain silly. 18's don't, and even 19's probably look ok on a Boxster, though I cringe thinking of the likely damage when a pothole is hit. Whenever I'm in prosperous southern states, I'm SO envious of roads there that feel smooth as glass... Knowby Roger987 - Main Forum
