Laz had mentioned seeing a Boxster recently, in an unusual light blue. I don't know whether this is the colour he saw, but I think I like it. I suspect it's a paint-to-sample colour.by Roger987 - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario An interview with the engineers who design the way a car sounds. In this case they talk about the 718. It talks about everything that the engineers have to consider. Back to Guenter's original post, given the time and effort that Porsche expended on the 718's sound, I would regard it as unlikely that the aftermarket will be able to improve on it.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Interesting. Clearly, they worked hard to make the 718 sound as good as it could. The engineer doesn't pretend that the flat 4 mimics the sound of the. In the video below, the Porsche rep explains the body changes, which are intended to make the 718 appear lower and wider. I'd say it worked. But in doing so, they've flattened the wings (fenders) even more than they did with the 981. To me, theby Roger987 - Main Forum
Thanks for posting. I don't mind the 718's looks. It still looks much like a 981, which is a good thing. Historically, Porsche's body changes have been described (accurately, I think) as 'evolutionary'. I don't know that I'd regard the 718's changes that way. For the most part, they strike me simply as 'changes'. Porsche knew it had to make some noise (if you'll pardon the expression) when theby Roger987 - Main Forum

That is VERY impressive. It would seem that, when not burdened by fuel consumption regulations, Porsche's heart remains with the NA flat 6. QuoteGary in SoFLby Roger987 - Main Forum

QuoteGary in SoFL With you appetite for researching everything Porsche, I would have expected you to know that. That, from the guy who has more posts today on this PORSCHE board, than anyone else. Just sayin'.by Roger987 - Main Forum
that 911R resembles a 981 Cayman. I wonder if paint options for the 91R include Rhodium Silver. From what I've seen, that's a popular colour choice on the 981 Cayman. It highlights the car's lines very nicely. Wouldn't you agree, Gary?by Roger987 - Main Forum
apparently in an (unsuccessful) effort to limit the weight gain. Speaking of weights, my local Porsche dealer tells me there's already a wait-list for the 718, and they're giving deep discounts on remaining 981's. BTW, tomorrow is April 1, right?by Roger987 - Main Forum
I wonder if Guenter may have been referring to the unit(s) which receive the signal transmitted from the sensors in the wheels? (assuming the sensors inside the wheel send a signal).by Roger987 - Main Forum
Interetind read. The following bit addresses the issue of 'turbo lag': "To maintain responsiveness even when the driver lifts off the gas, Porsche briefly leaves the throttle open while retarding the timing, cutting fuel, and shutting the wastegate, essentially pumping air through to the turbo to keep it spinning; get back on the gas quickly, and the turbo’s already in play—no waiting for iby Roger987 - Main Forum

Looking at the exterior of the 718: The front 'grill' is now an inverted smile (a grimace, or a snarl, sort of), like the turbo 911. Interestingly, the non-turbo 911's retain the smiling grill - wider at the top. The 718 and 911 have reflectors mounted low on the rear bumper. I first noticed these on the Acura TSX when it was introduced a number of years ago. I don't know whether they are manby Roger987 - Main Forum
oh, hang on, I just noticed the volume on my computer was turned off... I'll give it another go now. ...... ...... Ok, we're talking about only sound here, right? Not strong torque at low rpms, prettier steering wheel and mirrors, etc. Just sound. I'm not making this up. Although it's been 40 years since I owned the bike, the 781 brought back a memory instantly. The engine sounds exactly liby Roger987 - Main Forum
Hmmm... Did someone here suggest that recently. As for the styling - overall, it looks like a Boxster, and a lot like the 981. The front end is good-looking, the mirrors are nicer, the steering wheel is improved over the standard steering wheel, and the back end...... umm... not a train wreck, but a tad busy, and do we really need the big PORSCHE billboard? I think not. Not to be catty (well,by Roger987 - Main Forum
I agree, Mike. I would have thought those old full-frame 'tanks' would have pulverized today's lighter, frameless cars. Generally, I'm not generally terribly enthusiastic about big-brother mandating how we live, but if government had a role in the improved crash-safety of cars, well, then, kudos to government. I actually don't know where/how it all started. Probably Nader had something to do wiby Roger987 - Main Forum

Oh geez, this has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. According to C&D, the Cayman S, with PDK, gets to 60mph in 4.2 seconds "Well, in our initial testing, the 3025-pound, 325-hp Cayman S accelerated to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds at 112 mph." The Cayman GTS gets there in 4.1 seconds. "The GTS doesn’t feel any faster, and indeed, it isn’by Roger987 - Main Forum
Clearly, Gman, you don't choose your car 'by the numbers' - the GTS, with a whopping 15 more horsepower than the S, is said to be ONE-TENTH of a second quicker to 60 mph, than the Cayman S. I did indeed see some pavement just the other day - a large truck hit a snow/ice/salt-filled pothole, causing chunks of asphalt/ice/salt to fly past my windshield.by Roger987 - Main Forum
"But it matters not one bit". At 7:50 onward: Now, just imagine if the Cayman's roof were removable - all that performance, AND a drop-top. That would be an absolute DREAM car.by Roger987 - Main Forum
