Bruce, sorry about what happened. I had two similar situations, the last one allows me to offer some advice. My first was when my 99 Box got keyed. But, that was "easy" to fix - take it to a body shop for painting.. My second situation is more like yours. My right front fender has about a 100 very very small, how can I describe them, etched spots. I have no idea what happened, but they areby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I ordered my 99 with logo delete. And of course it came that way. My 2008 was off the lot and had the logo. I think that I learned this on this board -- I simply took a piece of dental floss and carefully worked it under the rear logo moving it back and forth. The logo comes off very easily. It is held on by a substance that does not harm the paint. There is absolutely no evidence that theby Bobtesa - Main Forum
And the issue of Excellence I got today seems to have way too much about the new, spectacular, let's talk about if forever, Porsche 911 Carrera S. Doest thou protesteth (brag) too much? I wonder? The cost has gone up, and the base price does not include the now optional sunroof. So, the price is even that much more. I wonder what will happen with the new Boxster? I wonder what it means thatby Bobtesa - Main Forum
This a good topic to hear various options and opinions on since it significantly raises the cost of tire replacement on cars so equipped. As I understand it, tpm is now required on all new cars (since the SUV roll over issues were supposedly due to low tire pressure). But, owners are not required to replace the system when getting new tires. While I seemed to have lived just fine driving witby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Gary, I have recovered from my rear-enders. Two were minor - just some headaches, but one (10 years ago) left me with a herniated disc and occasional back problems. Thanks for the get well note.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Having been rear-ended three times, once in my 1999 Boxster, I do indeed check my head position against the seat, head rest, or whatever might be back there when considering a car for purchase. If memory serves me, my 987's head rest is positioned is in a better position than my 986. Using the same seat position, the head rest is closer to the back of my head. Ditto with my Subaru. Pedro, given what mikefocke wrote, how are you going to test it? It appears to be detection device. If you install one in your car and your ims never sheds ferrous, you won't know if it works or not. Also, I wonder how many false positives it will generate. That is, folks with some tiny amount of metal that is not ims-related who then get their ims replaced. I'd like to do my own oil/filter change without buying a ramp or doing the jacking myself. Does anyone know of place in the DC area that rents lift time for DIY work? Thanks, Bobby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Larry, it should say somewhere (in the manual or on the box containing the replacement bulb) not to touch the new bulb with your fingers. Apparently even a small amount of oil from your skin will - well, I don't know what - shorten the life of the bulb, blow it somehow, not sure, but don't touch it. Handle it with a clean cloth, paper towel or something.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
You can disconnect the stuff as described above or talk with your dealer about how to disable sports chrono w/o disabling SE. Whatever you do, make sure that you or your dealer can reverse whatever you do. The next owner may want the sport chrono throttle mapping and expect it work as advertised.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I have a Porsche Stability Management (PSM) also and it is a separate switch. PSM is now standard, it used to be an option. I think, but am not sure, that getting the PSM button only lets you turn it off. W/o this option it is always on (as it should be). I'd suggest that you always leave it on unless you are an advanced driver and then only doing DE. The spoiler button has nothing to do wiby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Spike, I also have an 08S. I think there are 3 options that you may or may not be relevant to your situation. 1. Sport exhaust, SE 2. Porsche active suspension management, PASM 3. Sport chrono, SC I have SE and PASM, but not SC. This could be confusing, but I will do my best and others can correct me. (Bottom line, I don't know how to disconnect anything, but I would like to set my SE to onby Bobtesa - Main Forum
The battery on my 2008S also died after about 6 months from purchase. I didn't check volts or anything, just took the battery out, brought it to my dealer, they found a bad cell and replaced for free.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Checking in as another former ppbb'er. I think I found ppbb in 1998 (was it there in '97, I could have found it that early). It was a great help in buying my '99 Boxster. It was also the source for new owners to meet for country rides in the DC area. All the credit for that goes to Lorne Blackman - now in Vancouver (with a 911), and I haven't' seen him post here for a while. Through one of tby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I agree, not a bad idea to do a coolant flush. I think the Boxster lit says the coolant is forever, but some Porsche mechanics have said it should be flushed occasionally. I have my daily drive and wife's car coolant flushed about every 3-4 years after not doing it on a car that I had for 10 years and the heating coils got gunked up. Maybe the new coolants and/or Porsche's coolant won't do thaby Bobtesa - Main Forum

The driver's side windshield spray is misdirected. I can't see how to adjust it. Any thoughts? Is there a magic tool? When locking the car, isn't there supposed to be a beep or flashing lights after you hit the lock button on the key fob? I'm pretty sure that I recall this happening with my '99 and with my '08, but if it did this, then it has stopped. I looked but didn't find anything in thby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Good looking car. In MD, I'd love to take a road trip out west in my Boxster. I have even thought about shipping it to Denver or someplace and flying iout to start the trip. I had a loaner last year with pdk and I was also surprised at how low it puts rpms. I'll cruise at 2,200 or so in 6th on the highway (manual tranny), but no lower, either shift for power or very gradually move up the rpmby Bobtesa - Main Forum
A 380 hp Boxster - sign me up. Although with all the discussion here over the years of Porsche's strategy to keep the Boxster/Cayman below the power levels of the 911 flagship, it seems unlikely. The new 911 is in at 350 hp, so it seems unlikely we will see a 380 Boxster (and slightly higher powered Cayman). As for getting the power at high rpms, I knew that would be the down fall of the Hondaby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I'm not familiar with the cluster of the 911s, but in the Porsche website pics of the 991 interior the right middle "gauge" space is simply filled with "Carrera S". What the deal with that?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I agree about the center console. It looks like it would put the stick in an awkwardly high position. Maybe the center console is different for manual and pdk?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I'm not sure I like the looks of the new 911, the 991. I'll check it out in true 3D at a dealer. I wonder what this portends for the redesigned Boxster. I'm a little skeptical of how a Boxster will look based on the 991's new looks. Especially the rear. When is the new Boxster supposed to debut?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
First Paul, we are mostly not experts. It is all considered opinion and experience (like experiencing the medieval ills of hot oil, I liked that . So, here is mine. First, you make a good point. If you do your own oil/filter changes, then filling according to instructions would seem the way to go. So, to my way of thinking this discussion is relevant to folks (like me) who no longer work onby Bobtesa - Main Forum

mkaresh, if I read this correctly (and for sake of argument assume your numbers are accurate w/o error), are you saying the annual IMS failure rate is about 2%, but the cumulative life time failure rate is about 20%? That might make sense: 2% per year over 10 years would be 20% failures. If this is correct, a 20% life time failure rate over 10 years is very troubling. I owned my 1999 for ten yby Bobtesa - Main Forum
