My 08 is still under warranty and I plan to bring it to the dealer for a look see regarding a clicking I hear when it is cold. I'd appreciate thoughts (or even better, direct experience) about what this might be so that I am better informed when I hear the mechanic's explanation. The sound is like a clock or watch ticking. Not very loud, slow at idle, and like a rapid fire watch as rpms increaby Bobtesa - Main Forum

was taking the pic at 75 mph. I assume that you also posted to Pedro's while driving. Think of what folks can do with PDK? Nice going! It really makes one wonder - what the f*&^ is it that makes some engines (IMSs) fail while some last 150K, 250K, and now even more? No one knows, but It really is bizarre.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
Thanks. It occurred to me that I regularly look in areas in the front that would support wildlife. When I wash and dry, I remove the plastic pieces covering the battery and front drain areas to clean them. I would notice anything odd there. Now, I'll look for those kinds of trappings in the engine compartment when I open it.by Bobtesa - Main Forum

I have not opened my 08 engine compartment yet. I did that on occasion on my 99 and I'm glad to see from Pedro's diy's that it is pretty much the same. Once I open the engine compartment, what can/should I do? I only know of two things to do that are easy and straightforward: change the air filter and check the power steering fluid level. Is there more? I'm at 15K, so cleaning the throttle bby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I reviewed the paper work for my car over the weekend. Time for an oil change and 15K service. The oil change last year at the dealer was.... HOW MUCH! I must not have been paying attention last year as I also had a brake fluid flush, a warranted item fixed, and they (without asking me) change the cabin filter element. It cost WHAT to change the cabin filter! Enough of that. With my first Bby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Pedro, of course I, and probably all Boxster owners, agree with you. I wrote here about 2 years or so ago about how I think Porsche should market their cars. The basic concept is that like other options, engine choice across models should be an option. You can now buy a Porsche SUV, sedan, mid-engine (no rear seats) or rear engine car with rear seats. But, you can't choose your engine. I preby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Frogster, I think that you are mixing model years. I could be wrong, but I think the 2012 (or is it 13?) 911 and 911S are out, but the 911 4S is not out yet. That is, the 3.8 engine at 385hp, is the "old" car an hp. My guess is that the "new" 911 4S will have the 400hp rating.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I couldn't agree with you more. Besides the little rush I get looking at the car before and after a drive, it's the beauty of the car that motivates me to keep it in A1 condition. I find it a joy to groom inside and out. With the added bonus that every time I get in for a ride, it is liking getting into a new car.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
A little different take on Boxster designs. I had two experiences with my Boxsters that clarified my thinking and feeling about these cars. The first was with my 1999 Silver/Bl/Bl Boxster. I spec'ed the car and agonized over color selection. I love looking at beautiful cars, but I don't particularly want to drive something too eye catching. So, while the S/B/B was my choice, I kind of kickedby Bobtesa - Main Forum

Is $40 1997 = $56 2012? 40% depreciation in 15 years. Sounds like a lot, but that is not my point. Even if a 2013 (new model year) costs about the same in constant dollars, the car is now so much more: Glass rear window; Which goes up/down under 30 mph; with improved sound proofing in the top; 6 speed; nice increase in power; no IMS; DFI; vario cam plus; PASM is standard (nice and importantby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Yes, I know the emergency/park brake is anachronistic with how brakes are now set up, but I like its "retroness". Every 2-seater in the 50's and 60's had them. And, I'll bet Miatas still have them. This is not in the league with a manual vs. pdk, but neat just the same. In 14 years of driving my Boxsters, I may have used it maybe 5 times on hills. If I ever get a 981, I'll miss, even thoughby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I may get time to post thoughts about the car's shell later, but reading the web special, there are two things that I really don't like. 1. I could be wrong on this, but I don't see a HAND BRAKE. The new 911 has a mechanism that controls roll back on an incline. With even a little bit of driving skill you don't need this except on a severe slope. On a severe slope I like using the hand brakeby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Interesting. I am not a stock car racing fan, but if my memory is accurate, some video I have seen (maybe on TV) shows the shifter/stick in these cars is quite high and very near the steering wheel. It looks like there is minimal move of the right hand to shift gears.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I don't like the whole configuration of the center console. It is nice that they fixed the sports chrono "wart" (nice word for it), and it may be too much aluminum, but Eric can fix that. To me, the center console is something more suited to a sedan. And, it probably looks fine in a Panamera (I have never seen the interior of a Panamera). So, it seems to me that in Porsche's desire to share pby Bobtesa - Main Forum
While the current sales figures may not be reflective of total sales, if Boxster sales are at the bottom, while other makes (like BMW) sell more of their low end cars, this leads me to two conclusions. 1. Boxsters are the best Porsche deal. Especially for sports car drivers. Sure, Porsche probably makes plenty of profit from its lowest end car, the standard Boxster, but look what you get. At first glance, I'm not sure I like the console. Maybe it will appeal to me more in 3D.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
A 2008 may still be under warranty, so check out any issue with a dealer. Also, if you bought the car as certified from a dealer, then I think you have two more years of coverage.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
It seems a few folks here have had good experiences with Safelite. They quoted $129 + some materials cost. I'll contact my insurance company, but even if they don't cover it, it is worth not have the possibility of a crack spreading and then replacing the windshield. I don't imagine that is a cheap repair and certainly not DIY.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
...windshield chip repair would not come under a deductible claim? To save the cost for the insurance company to eventually have to pay for a total replacement?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
60 degrees in DC, so I went for a drive. I live near the beltway, got on and ran into what seemed like drizzle (not a rain) of particles hitting the car. One made a slight chip in the windshield. I recall reading somewhere about methods to chemically fix small chips. My local Porcshe dealer recommended Safelite. I'd be interested in anyone's experience with fixing windshield chips - companieby Bobtesa - Main Forum
EZ, This from long ago memory, but this is what I remember. It may depend on the year of the car. I used to take the pads off of my first Boxster, 1999, in order to install a Brey/Krause roll bar extension for DE. I very carefully used a screwdriver covered with cloth to gently nudge the pads from the rollbars. The plastic attacher (or whatever it is called), came out of the rollbar undamageby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Laz, You have old tires which are losing grip on dry pavement. Must be worse on wet roads, and even worse in snow. You plan to run them through snow. Why wait until spring?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I don't know if it is due heat cycling, or something else, but I have always thought (through reading here and elsewhere) that the quality of tire rubber deteriorates over time. I think a rule of thumb is that after four, maybe five years, regardless of mileage, tire rubber is reduced in quality to the point that replacement should be considered. That is why you want to check the date on tiresby Bobtesa - Main Forum
