I had one let go, after track use (long story, cheap replacement, don't go there...) and it flew around like a ball and chain, damaging lots of stuff in its path. This was partly induced by the LSD I have - you obviously have an open diff. In this case "good thing" The sound of the car with the LSD trying to apportion torque was awful until i got to the side of the road. Gby grant - Main Forum

1. With power disconnected, just gently pry the yellow connector off with a flat blade screwdriver or spludger 2. Found a broken wire. re-stripped, soldered, strain relief and put back together 3. Works as new. Grantby grant - Main Forum
I think i've foudn the problem - a broken wire that i can splice. What i need to know is (and yes, i'll also check the servivce manual) - how do i disconnect the airbag safely. I did this one but forgot. The ground strap has been off the battery for quite a while. Do i just pry the yellow connector off the back of the airbag or ????? 1. starter fuse 2. the flaky, weird ignitions switch (electrical part, < $20, PITA to replace but doable) 3. Clutch cut out. Easy to check, switch is under dash. Jump it with a wire if it starts, you foudn it 4. immobilizer/engine computer got wet 5. As some of you may remember, my horn was intermittent. Worked fine, then suddenly didnt. When car re-started, worked fine for a while. I assumed it was ignition switch/logic related, but Boxsterra claims there is nothing int hat system that could interrupt it. Stopped working again and nothing seems to make it work. Since there are two actual horns, and neither works, I'll assume its not the hoby grant - Main Forum
My street car (04 base) started dripping around the water pump bearing a couple of days back. Took the cover off the firewall and it was fairly clear...plus a bit noisy. Gby grant - Main Forum
i would suspect either a) a hose connection at the radiator, b) a crack at a weld/connection, or c) leaves caused corrosion and a leak. Nothing i know of that's chronic Grantby grant - Main Forum

I've seen this before on Audis. Switch cuts all accessory power. Are you saying horn is not on that main circuit? Gby grant - Main Forum
Its suddenly working plain and simple, with nothing done. So its either: A) a logic fault that somehow closed an accessory relay, or the garsh-darn ignition switch not connecting some accessory power (a common problem in older Audis with the same switch) Time will tell. its not a tight fit seal. Its basically a rubber washer between the two races, spanning quite a distance. The normal "seal conditioning" does not, i dont believe, apply here. I do agree that acid is a big problem. That, however, is likely less a function of oil change intervals than how hard and hot the motor is run. ..especially since all that on and off slowly weakens the delicate threads holding the caliper to the knuckle. Which, i'll remind all, bit me in the end. Yet the 981 cars are SOOOOOo superior -- performance, motor durability, chassis poise. I expect i will own one relatively soon (a couple years). Gby grant - Main Forum
I do hate those under-trays. Small beer you may say, but its a total PITA on my Audi, and I have always loved just how simple this job is on the 986; remove plug, spin off filter, drain, replace (wait forever, go do something), fill, done. On the Audi, its 1) fight with and swear at the belly pan, then 2) wrestle the oil filter out of a crevice behind the sway bar where and errant move shorts itby grant - Main Forum
.. the oil filter. The oil drain/add part is quite easy. So why is it there? And what is the "funnel"?I wonder if this has something to do with a better integrated "dry" sump design? I know they are far less prone to starvation; bigger internal storage that demands a different - and awful - filter location? I wonder if there is a work around. I would suspect that it has more to do with external damage/unusual impact rather than simply time and mileage. In pure theoretical guessing land, i would suspect the rears since they carry more weight and likely higher side-loads. Either way, the rubber bushings and shock-top mount bearings (mostly front) may wear before the actual damper unit and always should be replaced with them. I would aby grant - Main Forum
